Could it be the transfer case?

You can see my mods in my profile and I have searched all over for a similar problem.

Whenever I let the rpms go below 2k and just lightly press the gas to maintain speed, the car jerks. If I give it a little more gas it goes away. I have replaced transmission, clutch, flywheel, rear end and they are all good. Transfer case is leaking from the yoke and when I bought the car it was pretty much empty.

This is annoying because it makes me have to cruise in a lower gear so my Rome are over 2k. It mainly happens in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, happens a little in 4th and bairly feel it in 5th. Has anyone had similar problems or have any suggestions?

My only advice would be to check the yokes. Rotating the drive shaft left to right with a little play is back lash which is ok if you have tons of back lash....not ok. As for the actual yokes them selves if u can shake the hell out of them and they flop around there are a no go. Matter fact there should be hardly any play at the yokes but like I said a little back lash is ok. Jack the car up and let me know what you find. I hope this puts you on a possible lead.:thumb:

You could also check the bushings where the rear end mounts to the car; these go bad on the 2Gs. Also, the carrier bushings are usually quite sloppy as well. Could also be a bad motor mount. My point is, check the easy stuff first...

I have went over the easy stuff and the mounts are fine as I just checked them when I put the new rear end in this summer. My car is two hours away from me right now so I can't check but does that sound like something a bad transfer case could cause?

If your car is being driven around with a dry transfer case could you please PM me the name and social of the person driving it? I'll also need birthdate, marital status, and whether he or she is a smoker.

No it was dry when I bought the car, it is no longer being driven on an empty t-case. Right now she has a slow leak and is parked for the winter for some minor repairs. The previous owner was a moron and even the owner before that. I resurrected her back to life and had to fix all the wrong things that were done.

Well, when you get the car back, you can take the t case apart and inspect it. I can post up some pics directly out of the factory service book, if you like. You will be looking for damaged bearing races and the teeth on the gears. The t case fails in one of two ways when run dry- itll lock up (real fun if youre doing 50 on the hwy) or the teeth will strip off the gears. If the teeth and races are worn, this would definitely throw off your tooth engagement and cause that sloppy feeling. I just went through my t case and replaced all the seals and inspected it for the same damage, though luckily it was in excellent shape. Let me know and when I get home Ill try and get the pics up for you:thumb:

^^ There is a recall, but it can be a pain in the arse to get them to do it. If the transfer case isnt making noise while the car is moving, there may not be any damage, though you need to fix the leak. What usually causes the transfer case to leak is the slip-yoke and not the seal though. There is a brass plug in the bottom of the yoke that typically leaks, and the yoke is what the dealership replaces in the event of a leak when the t- case doesnt exibit any signs of damage. The yoke will leak again though if you dont seal the brass plug. VFAQ.com has a tech article explaining how this can be done.
