My friend just bought a 93 GS with the 1.8 liter engine. It didnt come with power steering but we wanted to look into how much it would cost for the parts to do it. I also need to find out how i could go about getting these parts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd keep it that way...I don't like power steering all that much. It is difficult to handle an eclipse without PS, but to install it would probably be pricey. I like to get a good feel of the road and I can much better without the PS...

It wouldn't work properly any ways. The models that came witout powersteering had a higher ratio rack to compensate for the lack of powersteering. If you put powersteering on a manual rack, watch out.

the manual rack doesn't have fittings for power steering. You have to swap out:

Rack
Passenger bracket
pump
lines
cooler
resivior

Oh, not to mention the fact that I don't know of any 1.8L cars that came with power steering- and it's not exactly the same orientation or anything compared to the 2.0L.

Perhaps someone else could clarify if the 1.8's ever came with power steering.

The thing i can clarify is that EVERY SINGLE piece will need to be replaced. On a light car like an N/A FWD, i wouldn't bother. I drive the manual rack in my AWD with 235's on the front and it's not that bad. with the 195 pizza cutters that are on the 1.8's, you shouldn't have any problems. :)

Theres a junkyard near me with a old dsm(don't remember whether it was a talon, eclipse or a laser) with a 1.8l and power steering. There were definetly 1.8l cars with power steering. I can't find one near me with a manual rack. I am looking for a manual rack. Oh and I have a perfectly good pump/lines/reservoir hanging around too.
Pm me if you want the parts from that car/my car. I would be willing to deal.
