hey guys iam going to be tearing down my motor pretty soon and i would like to know what prices should i look to pay for each of the following services...

rotating assembly balancing?
shotpeed rods?
head hot tanked cleaned?
bead blasted cleaning on block and iron exhaust manifold and turbine housing ex. side?
head resurfaced?
block deck/resurfaced?

just need some advise so i dont get ripped off, thanks

You are going to find prices can range and differ from 50-100 sometimes because of location alone.

Not to mention the amount of time some shops will spend or the type of tools they may use compared to others. It will be really difficult to just list prices, there are so many variables like condition previously of the motor, the amount of work, ect.....

some prices from my area would be

balancing...........................$175
deck block..........................$60
Mill head............................$50
Glass bead misc parts......... $75/hr
tear down clean head...........$25

but other things you may need for your rebuid
polish crank........................$45
Hone Block..........................$60
check big end of rods............$10 ea

Also talk to your supporting vendors, Jackson Auto Machine would be a good one to talk too, also DSM graveyard and others.
Thats why they are here and they know what they are doing with the 4g

I paid $80 to have a head cleaned, pressure tested, and resurfaced. It was bare as I had already removed the springs, valves, etc myself.

It was $25 to remove old pistons and install new ones, install ARP rod bolts, and re-size the big end (each).

i stay near jackson auto, just called them

resuface head........$40
engine balanced....$100
shotpeening rods..$10ea rod

am going with them they have good deals, i expected them to be high.

Thanks for the recommendations guys!

Yes, give us a call. Do you need the rods rebuilt? Shot peening the rods will require the bolts to be pressed out, and both ends will need to be sized. Many times the peening will affect the mating surfaces. We can handle all of that work for you just give us a call. For some reason the forums haven't been loading well for me so email or phone call works best.
