i have a similar setup on my lt1, but with lt1's you have to deal with the opticrap so this pretty much eliminates it. i guess i wont need it unless i have money to waste. thanks.

Just to update this thread, I installed the COP back on my car in the first week of August and have had no issues with misfiring or problems with tuning as I just recently went to the dyno and put down 353 AWHP and 328 ft/lbs of torque. That's better than last year with DSMlink being the only mod done since then.

I just reinstalled my COP and did some wiring changing think did have a wire wrong. The car starts great, idles perfect and no popping ,no misfires pulls fast to redline no problems.Gap is at .028. I haven't run the boost past 15psi but even at 15psi before it was misfiring like crazy.I guess you maybe can mess up the wiring bad enough so it will run but not run right. With two of the wires wrong at first it wouldn't even stay running.I reversed them and then it was great.
I can't give the codes too well as I have a 97 car with 95ecu for dsmlink and am using a 1g coil plug on the COP.I didn't want to hack my 2g coil plug up.

So it appears the COP will work with no ignition amplifier.I might get a crane box anyway at some point in the future if it seems needed for like 30psi.

Since we're all updating this...

After installing a FMIC, my plugs did need to be gapped down to .025 to prevent misfiring. As such I'll be following my own advice from previous post and getting rid of it.

Has anyone tried the motorcycle coils? You can get near new GSX-R coils dirt cheap on ebay.

why exactly are you guys wanting to go to COP? There really isn't much to be had in performance gains. The stock ignition is more than adaquite for most people. All i can see COP is being a reliablilty issue. I'm not saying it dosn't work, but if your looking for cheap power gains this is not the answer.

I have looked and looked and i cant find the wiring diagram to wire up a coil on plug setup for a 90 DSM, i know you have to do something to it for the tach to work correctly. Can anyone who has one or know how to wire it help me, out pictures would be greatly appreciated.

People don't necessarily go with a COP setup for performance gains. I bought mine because my stock coils broke a post, and if you ever priced out a new OEM coil set together with a good set of spark plug wires, you would find that you can get a COP for about the same price. This eliminates you from having to buy spark plug wires, and cleans up the engine a little. No more stock coil set bolted in your intake manifold, or spark plug wires snaking down the side of your engine.

anyone look at kiggly's or Magnus' race cars....you see those same spark plug wires snaking down the side of their engine. I still dont know If I believe in this COP bandwagon phase. they do look pimp though.

is that also with the aid of an ignition magnifier? such as the aem or msd? we know that the stock setup is good for 9's, so why bother swtiching yet? I dont think that most of these people who are asking are knocking on 9's.

no added igntion amps were discussed at all, and some people have had spark blow out etc will before 9's. Its kinda of one of those things if you do it and its a almost stock car you wont gain much if any thing but you have the pieces in place for later.

why do I bring up ignition amps? because all of those big boys that we are talking about have them along with their cop setups. I've heard numerous accounts about when you do go cop that you'll want to use an ignition amp. I'm not trying to argue, we both have our opinions. and maybe when I stop hearing all of these horror stories about switching to cop's and have ignition cut-outs, etc I'll switch to one also, but for right now my stock set-up with NGK wires and plugs suits me fine.

no sorry we have a small misunder standing, when I talked to dave we didnt discuss any amps. He just said that the cop is good for high boost for cleaning up misses. He did also say how ever that a cdi box will make it even more powerful. Sorry for the confusion I wasnt trying to be a dick.

ya when I said ignition amp. I meant one of the units like the MSD dis-2 or the unit that AEM has come out with. I do hope that these unit do become more user friendly and you dont hear about anyone having problems with them. no disrespect taken, I wasnt trying to be a dick either.

I was thinking of trying a aem amp, but I have read a buch about them failing on the aem fourms. I thought they were supposed to come out with a new model but I have yet to see one. I think I am just gonna get a tried and true dis-2 and be done my self.

Required parts:

Chrysler:
2000, 3.5l ,300M coil: http://www.chryslerpartsdirect.com/ (4 required)

Toyota:
Connector housing: p/n 90980-11246 (4 required)
8 Connector wires: p/n 82998-12440 (package contains 10)

This has a typo. If you call the dealer, and order 1 p/n 82998-12440, thinking it has 10 to a package, you will be disappointed. The package only has 1 connector wire...not ten. Trust me, just went thru it

I am doing a diy cop setup for my car. I got a Jm fabrications plate and 2000 3oom 3.5 coils. I dont understand how to wire the coils. I have seen a few wiring diagrams, but the have red, blue and black with blue stripe wires on them. I cut the plug off my stock coil pack to wire the new setup with , so i dont have to wire them into my engine harness. The problem is that the stock plug that i cut off my old coil pack has a black, white and red wire, no blue or black with blue wires at all. Does anyone know the proper way to wire these and what wires i need to use? Maybe even a diagram that makes sense?
