Ive searched everywhere and cant find anything on this issue. My car overheated two weeks ago after blowing the lower rad hose. i got new hoses and coolant. The car runs just like it did before anything ever happened, im so happy no warped head. Anyways, now the temp gauge barely moves. I let the car idle for 10-15min it moved 1mm up, i drove it around the block it moved up to 1/8th mark on the gauge. When i floored it in 2nd gear the gauge dropped down to nothing again. I was told to bleed the system so i left the vent open on the radiator cap for about 5 min and closed it and still didn't fix it.

Anyone have this issue? Any help would be great.

Chris

Do DSM have a temp sensor type item screwed into the block? Im not quite sure since I never had an issue with one before on this type of car. Had a saturn do it to me at work the other day, even on the ethos computer it was showing 72* F. Was a quick fix.

Other then that, does your car have heat still?

Does the oil have anything milky in it?

Did you fill it completley and let it cycle, not just fill the overflow.

the oil is fine, i checked it its still new, and yes i let it cycle 3 times now. The car has heat and the sensor is taped right into the thermostat housing.

did you check your thermostat?

if your engine temp is taking long to warm up then its possible that the thermostat is stuck opened.

ill be taking a look at that tomorrow. I drove to the store to test it out, the temp sits right below 1/4 while driving. But at stops the temp starts to rise but goes no higher than right below a half is that normal? My sentra goes to right below the half mark and doesnt budge no matter what your doing to it. Also, i let it sit after driving it and turned it on about 5min later the temp went back up to below half. I just wanna make sure everything is ok for a 70+mile drive to my shop.

It sounds like your thermostat is stuck open a little, not a lot. When a thermostat is stuck open it will run fine when driving, but start too overheat when idleing. The safest bet would be to replace it. They are cheap anyways.

My car always stays around half way on the gauge, i also have a logger and it consistently reads about 170-210 degrees.
