First off , :beatentodeath: , Now that I have gotten that out of the way I am trying to justify if the 350 dollar FAL setup is worth it to get idle temps down .

2.3 , agp L3R , a/c removed , fluidyne , dejon race fmic ( as some of you know it covers the whole radiator and even sticks out the bottom a tad ) , 2 slim lines.

No holes etc have been cut in the bumper at this point , I would like to get out of the way of any kind of extra juicey juices for the radiator and that the thermostat etc etc etc is all fine . I am meerly trying to figure out of the 350 dollars is worth the sealed fal fan setup.

My heating issues are only occuring during traffic idle . hence adding the now famous street sign induction will not work nor do I think adding a carbontrix scoop etc will help greatly since the function is to create suction while the car is driving.

Really need some good input as I do not enjoy eventually paying 350 for extra fans , cutting bumpers etc when I could buy the fal to begin with *assuming it actually works alot better than normal slim lines .

Thanks guys. :boring:

( edited my drunkin stooper line )

dont waste your money on that fal shit, as long as your fans are rewired to run all the time, your set. after thats taken care of go and buy a hood vent and you wont be complaining about high temps any more. heres the link, http://www.carbontrix.com/ the hood vent will drop your under hood temps alot. all the heat from the manifold and the radiator are pushed out and released from the hood vent. get the reverse style 18"x10" vent. you can also call rob at road race engineering to get the same hood vent in fiberglass for like $50.

50 you say? hmmm hehe . Ugh I feel like such a ricer adding a scoop I think thats my main concern .. But -300 to fix the problem would be nice .

Do others agree I should take this route ?

Oh ill paint it alright heh , I might have to get the CF just because the surface might be smoother without me having togo over it with bondo .

Ill be surprized if it lowers the temp by 15f at idle , but if it does you just saved me 300 .

I was debating adding another small fan to the back of the I/C assuming I can get one in there.

The SPAL 1330 cfm fan and ducting around the intercooler solved all my overheating problems. I tried a cheap autozone fan, no avail. Tried a FAL, nothin. Removed condenser, helped a little.

Installed the SPAL fan and used some sheet metal to make ducting from the IC to radiator, car stay much cooler. Hell, I was seeing 240+, now its back around 200.

Alright if you havent please read the previous posts real quick , I finally got the car back . still having over heating issues . The guy said it was fine after he put the fans on the front of the radiator but unfortunately it only helped the problem a little . Car seems alot better while cruising but at idle the car gets the crap kicked out of it heat wise ( its not the HG ) .

Before i rip out the nostrils of the car , I doubt it will drop the temps as much as I want.

( i also noticed bubbling at the thermostat gasket so thats being replaced once it cools off .. )

My main issue here fellas is my dejon race core takes up alot of room and is v slanted somewhat ( pressed fully against the bottom of the unibody , radiator support frame. )

The fans are a 12" and an 11" not exactly the best fans in the world but I have an issue with pulling a slim line on the inside since the gt35r i/c piping cuts right by the rad not even the IMPORT 2f2f FAL's will work heh .. I have spent so much time and money to get screwed now i redo it and there are still minor issues alough the mechanic is trying to help and a really good guy im just kind of lost what todo at this moment.

I have no room to place ducting . Its been fairly cool out too .. Obviously there are routes I can go like a air/water and have no fmic etc but I am to tired to sell them get another and have longer down time etc. Will hacking my bumper work? carbontrix vent? Im looking for good answers that will help alot and solve the problem . I dont want to hack up my bumper ( and its not cooling enough ) get the scoop , then finally get the fans and have it work.

Im sure people have had issues like this in the past they eventually solved.

and my low beams still dont work , id drive me and myself off the grand canyon at this point but if i hit traffic on the way to colorado ill never make it.

just call me the bus driver because im about to take you to skool... :)

alright man here is the deal. you are over heating at idle right? your coolant temps drop as your driving means that your fmic isnt blocking that much airflow as your temps are cooling. the real problem lies at idle. this means there is something wrong with your coolant fans. are they both kicking on? if only one runs on my car it gets hot in heavy traffic.

also how much radiator fluid are you running? too much radiator fluid will cause you to over heat.

that hood vent will do wonders for idle but when your driving it will cause air to get sucked in causing low egts which will hurt spool up (just a thought since you got a gt35r)....

here is a thread i made awhile back...

I had a similiar problem, make sure your fans are wired/working correctly.

If the fans are on the engine side of the radiator, with them on they should blow a peice of paper towards the engine.

If the fans are on the bumper side of the radiator they should suck the peice of paper into the fan.

Think about it, if the fans are on the engine side of the radiator and they suck the peice of paper into the fan you are sucking the hot air in the engine bay and putting it onto the radiator, raising temps even more. If the fans are pushing the paper towards the engine, they are sucking cold air through the radiator and throwing it onto the engine, lowering temps.

Yep , they are pushing and on the *non engine* side .. i can feel air pushing through into the engine bay on one side ( guessing thats where the bigger fan is ) and a lil bit on the other side ( pushing into the "exhaust manifold" side ) ..

Anyone know the max size fan i can have as pushers ? i seriously dont care if i have to pay 350 dollars for a pair of fans. my injectors etc can wait

JUST DONT TRUST YOUR HAND!!!!!! i had the same problem. it took me FOREVER to figure it out to. take a leaf, paper, something to stick in front of your radiator. i bet this is your problem

*drops a piece of paper , watches it stick to the radiator* .... SOB heh ... the other one that was "blowing harder" was blowing.. the other one was sucking the exhaust mani heat heh.. hope this works

please send me money for saving you a countless number of hours and money to my paypal account ROFL . it will work man trust me...:thumb:

remember on most fans to switch direction just switch the ground to power and power to ground. with any wiring besure to disconnect the battery...

good luck man
david...

ya i have to get another fan I think , the blade is a curved one and you cant flop the blades so its for inseff.. insuffient in.. that one word that means "not to its potential" heh..

Bleh , i swear its one thing after another with this car

Most slim fans are crap, you should probably invest in some SPAL or Perma Cool fans. I have a single 10" Perma Cool that gets the job done.

this is true. i have had 1 set crap out on me. this is why i buy the cheap $40 dollar ones from your local parts store. my cools GREAT in florida heat...

well im going to pull the bumper i/c and do measurements one last time , get the biggest fans I can with the most cfm and see what happens . Hopefully it works , if not .. Back to the drawing board.

Think next time around ill just get a smaller intercooler

im telling you man your problem lies with the fans.

think of it like this...
you were sucking super hot ass air on your your radiator instead of cool air. i was doing the same thing and it did a complete 180. i was actually running too cool and had to take some of my cooling mods off!!!

david...:thumb:

Ya , I completely understand , doesnt help only 1 was pushing and the other was sucking hot air . kind of reversing any job it was doing .

I just hope I am able to get large enough fans to fit there , With the ones I have on now even if i made that 1 blow in the correct direction, come summer im going to be in trouble.

I just have a bunch of little stuff wrong with the car , it just gets annoying after awhile

i hear you on that one man but once you get past this bullshit its just easy cruising. i have done NOTHING to my car for about 2-3 months not besides upgrade and change the oil :thumb:. i also get in here EVERYDAY and drive it about 25-50 miles a day back and forth from work and school.

get 2 10" or 12" fans. i think i have 12" but im not sure. so when buying double check the sizes to make sure it will fit. on my car i have 1 a pusher and 1 a puller but only because my tial wastegate gets in the way of my second fan...

so im debating cutting the nostrils alough im not sure how much it will help .. there isnt Doodie for room , not to mention the fan i set to push the oil cooler is right in front of it ..

You cant really tell from the pictures but the i/c is V'd ( not on purpose )

seems there is an 11 and a 10 there . Ill drive it this weekend to see how much it warms up since going to work doesnt really do it . i removed the thermostat too just because

and here is the ugly engine :( im still working on it and cleaning it up slowly .. all the a/c lines are in .. the battery mount is in there .. I need to get a sbr exhaust mani cover so it doesnt look at ugly.

( no filter because the guy on ebay jipped me heh , was like exotic truck auto or something )

im just scared about cutting the nostrils because there is not much supporting my bumper at this point :/

very nice setup man. maybe one day ill be there...

the only thing your doing by taking out your thermostat is prolonging how long it takes for your car to heat up. it will still heat up, but it will take a little longer instead. also once coolant temps drop below a certain point it will no longer read fuel trims...

the only thing cutting a hole in the bumber is gonna do is cool your car down a little bit faster while you are driving nothing else....

did you read that thread i posted above? i would put another bent up street sign in before i go hacking up my nice bumper....

hope that helps
david

Ya i read , problem is there is no room .. the bottom of the IC is smashed against the bottom support frame .. so it wouldnt do much .

the main reason i do not have the thermostat in is because the stupid bronze/brass little nub on the outerrim is not catching the .. uhm i dunno what you call it .. that U part on the tstat housing that it should go into so it holds there and does not move around.

but hey we live in florida right? by the time summer comes my car will be up to temp before i even start the thing heh.

LOL well actually during the summer time it ushally starts up at like 80 degrees or so. give or take a few degrees of course hahahaha....

your definetly gonna need 2 fans tho...
