So, anyone ever find a lower radiator hose that works well in the
configuration that this car is in (2g body, 1g head, 16g turbo)?

1g hose would fit perfect with the stock turbo, but doesn't fit at all with
a 16g (j-pipe conflict).

2g hose "sort of fits". Only good for about 8-10k "E-Mod Brian" miles
though apparently, because it rubs on the shift linkage... I don't like
solutions like that, I shouldn't have to replace my lower radiator hose
everytime I change spark plugs :) Wouldn't be too bad if I just avoided
4th
gear (that's when it appears to rub the worst), but that's not a good
solution either :) Considering filing away on the linkage, but afraid I'll
end up damaging something...

Right now, I'm kind of short on time, so another stock 2g hose is going
back
in. However, when this one wears through in the next year or 2, I'm hoping
to have a better solution ready.

Glad to help :thumb: I actually use these for both the upper and lower radiator hose on my Talon. You can see pictures of them (at least the upper one) in my gallery if you want to. They come with various size adapters making them easy to fit to the radiator and water necks, and for $25 I think it is a good deal.

Yeah, I already bought another hose to throw on there for now, but once I get a job and start having an income again :) I'll have to order up one of those to start playing around with. How do you clamp them on? Another problem I have (with both cars) is that my hose clamps like to keep coming loose and then I leak coolant...

DSMtuners still do that reputation point thing? I'm not a frequent user, so I'm not up to date on how everything works. You deserve one for that suggestion, if I can figure out how to get one to you! :)

Edit: I figured out the reputation thing :)

These hoses clamp on pretty easy, but they use 4 clamps (2 per end, and they are included with the hose). There is a short length of rubber hose that you slip over the water neck, and then insert the stainless steel hose into that. You use one clamp on the water neck, and the other one on the stainless steel hose. It seems to seal really well. They include 2 inserts for each each end (a rubber insert that makes the hose end smaller) so you can replace most all sizes of radiator hose with just one of these kits.
Oh, and yes they do use reputation points on here :rocks: Just click on that little icon that looks like a set of measuring scales on the left of a post, and you can add rep points if you feel so inclined
Oops, I was too late...I see you know how to do it :rocks:

Well, I guess I'm probably going to have to head that way now. Was hoping to do a replacement with stock so I could make the Sunday autox and then the Shootout, but the new replacement hose is even worse than the old one. No way it's going to fit. Apparently they've changed the design a little...

Guess I'll have to get a kit on order and I'll probably be installing it while everyone else is having fun at the Shootout :(

is it hitting the linkage or the counter weight?

cause you can just cut the counter weight right off with no consequence.

cut the bulk of it off then hammer out the little pin and take the pivot point off.

It's actually hitting the linkage itself. My car has no counter weight.

Thanks to Showdown Motorsports, I may have the solution. I've been using a variety of aftermarket hoses, never even gave it a thought that a real Mitsu hose would make that big of a difference... It appears to make all the difference in the world. They let me have an old junk 2g OEM hose to test fit, and if I cut 2.5" off the engine side it easily clears the linkage by 1/8". The downside is that the OEM hose ends up rubbing on the j-pipe coupler, but that's FAR less hazardous to the hose than having the shift linkage jabbing into it!

Once I get a brand new OEM hose in, I'll know for sure if that's the true solution...

Switch to a 1g lower radiator hose and cut the counterweight off, mine does rub at all that way.

Counterweight's already gone. 1g hose doesn't even come close to fitting around the j-pipe. What turbo do you have? 2g hoses are all fairly close to wanting to fit. What I've found is that it's that the OEM actually does fit, while the generics don't quite...
