Can someone guide me with step by step instructions what to do? & Things I need. I have no A/C, car overheats caused by fans not turning on, relay is retarded, not blown but just doesn't work. Anyways I want to set up a toggle switch to turn the 2 fans on and off. I had it wired to the ignition but for some reason it stopped working today. Usually they turn on when I put the key in and turn it but not anymore...

Personally I would buy something like this, until you repair the factory cooling fan circuit.

Having it on a switch you might forget to turn it on or off, both having adverse affects.

Also remove all the old wiring you had to have it on the ignition.

Another thing you might want to try first is just run a positive and negative wire to the battery from the fans to make sure they are working properly.

I'd put a big red switch just to remind me LOL, but how would I use the fan control? What does it do? I just need the fans to work, The relay is a no cause it doesn't even have the connections for the fans to hook up to the relays, and even when it was the fans never turned on, reason why I did it straight to the ignition, was overheating. Also im not to fancy with wires..

ALWAYS use a relay with fans. Here's how to properly hookup 2 wire fans to run when engine is running (both fans can be wired in parallel on the fan diagram where it says "fan"). You can place a switch in series with the wire on relay pin 85 to force the fans off when engine is running should you need to (eg. when engine is too cold to provide interior heat).

If you fix your a/c wiring (if there is anything wrong with it) then you could use your factory a/c switch like I do to turn the fans on and no chance of accidentally leaving them on. Just a idea to keep things neat inside the car.

I dont understand all the talk about putting in a relay and make sure you put a fuse with it wtf.. tell me what I need.. and step by step how to do it, pictures would help, thanks. Hope you guys can understand my frustration

I hope this picture comes through. I tried to draw it up as simple as possible for you. :thumb:

Thanks Luv2rallye. I don't have a relay in front of me but there is usually a diagram on the relay card/box that shows the pin outs. For simplicity, a relay simply takes the heavy load of the switch away from the switch. The relay does the "switching" by flipping a "pole" or "gate" between two different terminals when 12 volts are applied to the relay's coil which is what makes the pole/gate switch from off to on. This keeps the switch from burning out under the heavy load of the fans draw which is probably pretty close to 30 amps for two fans, which is why Luv2rallye said to use a "30 amp" 12 volt relay which is correct or you will burn out the relay. Let me see if I can draw a relay up real quick. I hope that clears the relays operation up a little bit.

I am on a work computer so I can't view video's, the internet police block me but I can check when I get home.

Yes you would wire one switching pole to the fuse then from the fuse to the battery. The other switching pole goes out to your fans. The other two terminals on the relay will be one to ground and the other to your switch to turn your fans on supplying 12V +. Wire your other leg of the switch to a 12V + ignition switch operated source so when you turn your car off the fans will go off also. Easy Breezy! :)

Yes I viewed the video on my phone and it is correct. See, not too hard. It just takes the load off of the switch in your car. Some relays will only have 4 legs instead of the 5 in your video though. Good job!!!

I would bet you frird your toggle switch with too heavy of a load. :-( Take a paper clip and jump across the toggle switch connections and see if they come on, if so its the toggle. Thats why we use relays so that doesn't happen.

Yes that relay would be fine and rated at 30 amps. And 10 guage wire is good up to 30 amps. You really only need the 10 gauge on the fan circuit but you can use it to power the relay also but not necessary to be that large. If your fans have quit working again then you may have hurt the source you were pulling a large load from (ignition) but I hope not. They should draw straight from the battery through the relay which could be powered up by the ignition if you haven't hurt it.
