Coolant Temp problems, pics

I have a 92 laser awd. I'm really sure the coolant temp sensor is going out because the car will fire right up when warm, but now that it has been cold, it wont fire for about 5-10 minutes and now its getting worse because its colder. So I went to all the local parts store and they all have the same part but the stock clip isn't even close to the one there trying to sell me. I even went to two dealers and they don't know. If any one could help me out i would appreciate it. here are the pics

your best bet is go to a salvage yard and find a dsm then cut off the plug connector.

alright, do you think thats the right sensor or a different one?

I am not sure which sensor you are looking at but i can't see the other sensors in the t-stat housing.

There are 3 sensors in the thermostat housing:
The A/C temp sensor is in the upper half of the thermostat housing
The instrument cluster temp sensor is the smaller single wire tap
The ECU temp sensor is lowest in the thermostat housing and points slightly downwards.

Usually the Ecu temp sensor causes the problems you are having. Atleast it did for me.

so is the top sensor with nothing plugged into it my one for the ecu or not? thanks

Not, That is the AC over temp cutout. The one you are after is in the lower thermostat housing (the one with 2 male spade connectors) If the plug for the overtemp is bad the fan switch (in the lower rad. tank has the same plug)
