coolant overflow pics needed

Can someone please post up some pics of the stock coolant overflow and the routing of the hoses? I have an aftermarket overflow and I have the line going from the thermostat housing to the overflow but not one routing back to the radiator. Any help is appreciated.

There's a line from a nipple on the upper thermostat housing to the cap. From the cap there's a line (recirculation line) that goes down into the bottle. Then there's a line that goes out the other side of the cap (from the inlet line) that just vents.

There isn't a return tube
Only one line running from the thermo housing to the overflow.
The overflow then should have a tube venting away from everything

The return tube that is inside the can is connected to the hose from the thermostat housing. The cap has a built in tee so it utilizes the feed as the return as well. This is so after the coolont cools down and contracts, it can get sucked back into the system.

Maybe the N/T is different?

My overflow has 3 coolant lines. I will try and get a pic of it.

This is correct, even for 420A engines. There is no way for the conventional overflow system to work other than this. Without the "return"/"recirculation" line, it is impossible for the coolant to be pushed back into the engine. As Brian mentioned, it's basic thermodynamics dealing with differing coolant temperatures and respective pressures in a closed system.

Not to mention CAPS shows the picture of the 420A with three tubes as well.

That is what my overflow looks like. As you can see, there is a 3rd line that I have no idea where it goes or its purpose. I was thinking that is the line to recirculate the coolant back into the motor but its too short to reach anywhere. Any help is appreciated and much needed!! Also sorry for bringing this thread back with the pic, its the first time I've seen my car in 3 weeks .

i could be wrong but thats an oil catch can not an overflow but if you want to use is as such then plug that line on the side so you got one feed of thermo and one leading to bottom of car for excess.

also the nipple your leached onto is the wrong one that one is to feed the oil filter housing to cool it down that line needs to be fluged also or you will shoot all coolant out ... the nipple you need is on the other side of the radiator cap unless im mistaken and your using the 6bolt if so then excuse my comment.

Yea a friend had mentioned that it looked more like a catch can than an overflow. My catch can is what is mounted underneath my intake with the braided line going to the valve cover.
