Coolant Leak (what is this leaking from?)

Yesterday I was replacing my oil pan gasket and noticed this coolant leak. It's right above my oil pressure sending unit (pictured). Is there a gasket in that 'anti-freeze soaked' plug or could it be leaking from somewhere else? Also, what is that plug???

Just a heads up, the only "oil pan gasket" you should be using is rtv, just like it was from the factory. The paper gaskets in the kit DO NOT WORK AT ALL. Just thought Id share that "loving message" with you, carry on.

It looks like it might be leaking from the top. Maybe the water pump is going out or is leaking somewhere near the water pump. I know I have a leak around the same spot and I will be chaning all the belts, pulleys, and water pump next week.

as for the oil pan, i used rtv and a gasket. but that's not the issue with the coolant leak...

i replaced my water pump 40,000 miles ago, so it shouldn't be that. any other ideas?

Do not use the gasket with rtv it makes for more problems down the road than just rtv.

Ive built and rebuilt several of these motors and for longevity rtv is the best and only gasket that should be used on the oil pan.

I wouldn't worry too much about that plug. There's oil on the other side of it. There should be a coolant line that runs to your oil filter housing though which helps cool the oil. If you're leaking, it may be the hose that's connected there. Otherwise, you may have a leak from above or (longshot) your radiator is cracked near the bottom and it's spraying onto that particular location.

If you still can't find it, go to a shop where they have a cooling system pressurizer. It will come squirting out at the leak.
