Ok problem is, I recently drove the car 400mi one way, and on the way the car overheats, get out and the overflow is spewing out the tubes steam.(relief from the fill valve/ its a 13lb). Well with around 100mi. left to go I just pull the thermestat to let it flow free. well coolant was nowhere to be found when I pulled it off.
So I still pull the thermestat and fill it back up with coolant. (I know the water pump will cavitate from overflow but It had to be done.) Go around 25 miles and temps start to bump up and down (from the fans kicking on to try to drop it down). So I stop and check it out, when I stopped the temp skyrocketed. I look no coolant again, wtf I say. Not leaking anywhere look, wait, none? So I fill it back up and burp it again yada yada. go on my way, when I got home checked and coolant not up to the thermestat again. No smoke to top it off. No coolant in my oil or vise versa.
I've checked all I can think of would it be possible for it to pin hole into the cylinder and not have enough to smoke and its burning it off?:hmm:
I've gone out and started it the last 2 days and let it heat up, drove it around 2 mi. then parked it. No coolant leaking. So any guesses

just because your car isnt smoking doesnt mean its not a blown head gasket. i had the exact same freakin thing goin on. and just got pissed and decided to pull the head off. sure shit it was the damn h/g

UGH! i just wrote the SAME thing 20 mins ago about my car doing this. I asked also if it could be my head gasket. Ugh this sucks, i dont wanna rip apart the head....but if im going over 20psi soon i guess i will have to anyone to put new head studs in...

im having the same issue with my 90 gs turbo- the water just dissapears! i actually hard wired my fans to a toggle switch and that helps it run longer (LOL) but it still evaporates some place and i dont know where!!!! anyone know of anythign to check besides the head gasket and how would i see if my overflow bottle wasnt sealed?

When mine was doing the same thing, it was the water pump, the bearing went out and the only time it would leak was when i was driving it down the road, it wouldnt leak while sitting and wouldn't leak while idling, but i did hear a little growling of a bearing so i check it and was bad

before you replace the head gasket make sure your radiator cap is functioning right and no kinks in return tube. Also, I would replace head gasket bolts as well as your intake gasket when you repair the problem. Pay close attention to the directions as torque sequence is important with any repair to the head. However in my opinion I dont think these motors are prone to breaking cylinder to coolant passage, make sure this is the culprit....good luck.

Sounds like a head gasket to me! If the coolant is not leaking, it must be burning off and if it is disappearing that quickly i would doubt that it is anything to do with the turbo. Also that would explain why your temp is rising so fast.

......have you noticed if your car is skipping any.....and is it a automatic transmission!? if its not skipping, and you dont see any steem coming from your exhoust pipe, then you may wanna check out your radatior.

I'd check your cylinder head. If it has a crack in the right place, it's going to go into the combustion chamber. If the heater core was leaking, you should have a slightly wet passenger side floorboard. I'd also check the head gasket. Good Luck, Josh

178-176-178-177 compression 1to4. Took it to mechanic that I trust and he is going to pressurize the coolant system if its leaking he said sure enough that will find it. Not a bad idea how come they dont make a home tool for this? like a air fitting in top of a radiator cap maby. hook up a water pump and go to it(needs pressure like a pressure washer maybe, but just air would be bad right?)

I'll keep updated when I get it back. LOL as a side note he said what I did by removing the thermestat is not good on the pump as well, better to gut it and put it back in. He also said my choise in radiator caps was bad, I got the pressure releif kind with the handle. said Why add stuff that can fail when its not needed>good point.

Second side note. An external dump tube on your wastegate will melt your ac fan blades!!! make sure it turns back or reaches far enough down past the radiator... Now I got to get a push through between my fmic and the ac core/ or would you just weld onto it and take it out the front bumper.

Im having a simialr problem, my compression is 150 across the board, but i think my turbo seals are bad and might be burning it because it only smokes during WOT. Does anyone have an idea why my coolant bottle is filling up though on long drives? It fills enough that the engine warms up and i have to pull over and add coolant.

well ive noticed that my coolant disapears also but not as fast, i have new radiator cap and i do have smoke come out of my exhaust on WOT when shifting to 5th gear only. could it be the turbo seals cause car runs good to be h/g especially since my coolant and oil arent mixed.

Well, I would drive my car for 60 miles, and the the temps would sky rocket, pull over to find that my overflow bin was boiling..Boiling hot water and steam coming out. Well, long story short, i took off my heater core lines and blew through them, it was completely Plugged.

Check if you have heat

That sounds like my problem, whenever i drive extended periods of time my water boils and fills the bottle... oh and in the winter my car doesnt ever get that warm, like its only warm with the heat on when you are giving it gas...

i have same problem before just ignore this and later rebulit the engine :)

Wow are you serious ? If you're not going to contribute correctly don't waste your time. We're not looking to break or blow up our motors just cause one thing is bad when all it needs is to be fixed.
