Ok problem is, I recently drove the car 400mi one way, and on the way the car overheats, get out and the overflow is spewing out the tubes steam.(relief from the fill valve/ its a 13lb). Well with around 100mi. left to go I just pull the thermestat to let it flow free. well coolant was nowhere to be found when I pulled it off.
So I still pull the thermestat and fill it back up with coolant. (I know the water pump will cavitate from overflow but It had to be done.) Go around 25 miles and temps start to bump up and down (from the fans kicking on to try to drop it down). So I stop and check it out, when I stopped the temp skyrocketed. I look no coolant again, wtf I say. Not leaking anywhere look, wait, none? So I fill it back up and burp it again yada yada. go on my way, when I got home checked and coolant not up to the thermestat again. No smoke to top it off. No coolant in my oil or vise versa.
I've checked all I can think of would it be possible for it to pin hole into the cylinder and not have enough to smoke and its burning it off?:hmm:
I've gone out and started it the last 2 days and let it heat up, drove it around 2 mi. then parked it. No coolant leaking. So any guesses

my problem was fixed got 18 lb radiator cap without the releif valve and emptied the overflow which had buildup\mud\grime that was at the bottom. and it fixed it. wasnt holding enough pressure. and was just steaming slowly out the overflow which was too full. just because you cap is new doesnt mean its still good...
when they presurize your coolant if you hg is bad you cylender will fill with coolant and mine didnt. in fact i have 0 leaks. now i just have to find this ******* vac leak..

Okay, you have no leaks... I would remove and check your spark plugs if they smell sweet... you have a blown headgasket, also the smoke out of your exhaust will be like a white blueish smoke. Your also going to want too check your hoses, they get old and also can build up with gunk in your lines and will not create proper flow. Also in you overflow bottle your going to want to clean all the slime and gunk out of it also. I hope this helps you out.

Well i bought the car wit 56k and it has 80k now, so i think im due for a flush...they say every 60k but i wasnt sure what had all been done to it before ### he had a rebuilt motor so i figured they flushed the radiator. But anyways, once i get another paycheck im flushing it. Oh and i think i might be pushing coolant instead, ### it only seems to happen when i am boosting.

How the hell do you get away with that? You must not build up enough heat and pressure in your system to bleed off when you shut it off. There's no way I could get away with that here in AZ. My water would be all gone very fast.

It would blow a little out when I shut it off yes. But not enough to matter. I could go like 3 months without adding any water to it.

Yeah the best thing to do with overheating issues is to start with the cheap stuff first. Thermostat and rad cap.

I feel stupid for asking this as I am rally new to anything to do with cars but I'll do it anyway. My 97 gst started to get really hot the last 2 days and today pulled over and the tank was boiling and steaming, no leaks, how does one check the radior fluid in these... or even add it for that matter?

Check your overflow, its usually the opaque tube on the left of your radiator. Make sure its a little bit below the full line. I would also double check for a leak. I punctured my radiator and it wasent really leaking, but it got air in it and read hot.

To add fluid, go to the cap and put fluid in it. When you do that, make sure you burp your radiator. You have to make sure all the air gets out of the system.

another suggestion for those with this problem is to pressure test the system. you can rent a tester from o'reilly's, throw it on the car. heat the car up till about 13/14 pounds & shut it off. let the car sit overnight, check for pressure in the morning. i still had 7 pounds in the morning. i took the plug wires off, started the car for a revolution while holding the gas down to use the "clear flood" feature (no fuel injected), then pulled the plugs. if they're wet you have a blown head gasket. my plugs were dry. coolant is going somewhere.

off question: does ALL the coolant go through the heater core? i'm going to check that for blockages next. i also pulled the thermostat & started the car after filling the system, with the cap off it seemed like the coolant wanted to come out the water neck, not recirculate like i assumed it would (the pump should be sucking and pushing the same amount of water). could this be a problem with the heater core or oil cooler being plugged?

I'm having some stupid issue with my 97 Esi talon.
I had a puddle on saturday from my car. No biggie I checked the anit freeze and it was low as crap so I'm thinking its a hose or the radiator....I was wrong
I filled radiator and catch to a little below the line and drove it to my gf's house then back home. No leaks I said huh maybe it fixed it self, I woke up for work this morning and poof a big puddle underneath my oil pan, I thought oil....wrong again. I drove to work just went out and checked it 10 minutes ago, no leaks but my oil is perfect and my anti freeze is low as crap.
Could this be my water pump?
