I just bought a 99 gsx and i was wondering if anyone knew what it would take to switch it over to fwd? Ive heard bad things about the transfer cases in them and i wasnt sure if i wanted to keep it awd. Any info on the topic would be a help. Im still up in the air about either awd of fwd because with the front wheel i would get more horse to the wheels than in a awd.

OMG WTF are you serious? take your car out and do a nice launch , then take a FWD car and try to launch it. Keep AWD man. If you really want FWD, i'd trade my FWD talon for your AWD eclispe anyday. but seriously, if you want FWD, sell the AWD and buy a FWD and use the money you just earned and put it towards upgrades. Sorry to go on a rant, this is basically just my .02, I don't really know how much it would take to convert an AWD to FWD.

WTF WTF WTF WTF Just watch shep run the 1/4 mile and ask yourself if you want AWD or FWD

Here's what you do, first if your are serious about converting to FWD, stop and think about what you are planning to do with the car. Are you A- just driving it more from an aesthetic aspect and not concerned about the awesome traction and handling of an AWD vehicle, or B- just concerned about maintenance and upkeep of a high performance automobile.

If your answer is A sell your GSX immediately and get a RS they weight less and have an open front diff (well so do all stock eclipses but still) that way you can put all 100 and some odd ponys to one wheel. :notgood:

If the answer is B get used to fixing your car, if you are not comfortable/able to change your own oil and while your down there check the oil in your t-case then again you should immediately sell your GSX and get a honda, I hear they don't need oil to run. ;)

Now I really didn't intend to have this kind of tone when I started typing but the idea of converting a AWD vehical to a FWD is just retarded.

I wish to extend a welcome to you to join in the dsm cult but you must understand that you now own a machine that will need more maintance they you are used to. When you start upgrading stuff, weaker stuff will brake. Now you have bought yourself some time being that your car is a 99 but still its not getting any younger.

And also there is a safety recall on the seal and yoke on the t-case thus allowing you to, if signifcant damage to the t-case has occured, have it replaced for free or next to it.

mujgy

Just sell it and buy a fwd if you're that serious about wanting a fwd.
Don't kill a perfectly good AWD because you're scared of it, let someone else enjoy it.

Don't even think about. I will save you the hassle and trade you my fwd for your awd. Just kidding. Depending on the hp/torque level you will be ok. I would be more concerned about crankwalking than the diff going out.

If you want FWD quickly, just disconnect the differential. Its very VERY rare to hear someone want to go from AWD to FWD. Normally is the opppsite. I do have to say, you are a first.

hey bro!!!! dont go fwd, dont sell your awd, yes this cars are not hondas and as you increase hp parts will break!! but awd cars handle better than fwd way better:p I wish I my spyder was awd, dont get rid of the car I woundnt change it for any car. Im deeply in love with my dsm and (eventually you will too!) I will make it awd one of this days!!!

if you really want to sell it let me know, Ill buy it and go pick it up!!!

Yeah i talked to my friend about it to im gonna leave it awd. idk what i was thinking...LOL im just wondering if i can get better transfer cases and awd parts because i definitly want to have a sturdy drive train. if i want to get a good jump off the line i dont want to have to worry about launching it at like 4 and breaking something. IM new to the awd im just trying to find out whats good and whats not. engine wise im well on my way to keeping up wit my friends evo.

Launching at 4 grand is babying our cars. I take mine all the way up to 5,500 rpm. :D

Dont worry, its not going to break as much as you think it will.
