looked on vfaq and searched here if anyone has a url that would be awesome. I need to tow my 1g awd and dont feel like renting a flatbed but i have a car dolly so I need to drop the driveline to make it fwd

The only real way to do it is take the xfer case off and unbolt the driveshaft, no other way around it.

If you take off the driveshaft, the xfer case pukes oil. If you take the xfer case out, the driveshaft dangles around.
I have tied up the tip of the driveshaft and towed it a few hundred yards before,

Too bad you don't have a JDM transfer case

You can get some slack in the driveshaft and pull it out of the transfercase yoke. Then you'd need to wire up the driveshaft tip like Rob was saying, however, I would not recommend this for a long travel.

Car trailers are pretty cheap - I'd say just drop the money and not risk anything.

Yeah that might be an option, but I would say Xfer case and driveshaft would be an easier way.

Also, if you do pull the transfer case and driveshaft, I would not recommend towing for a long distance or towing at a high speed. I wouldn't think towing a couple of miles with the Xcase and the driveshaft out would be a game killer. But renting a trailer would be the best option. I know uhaul had them for rent as of Febuary last year. Good luck.

If you need the extra slack to remove it from it too, unbolt one carrier bearing which is just two nuts or bolts.

If it were me, I'd rather remove the driveshaft and then just refill the t-case when the driveshaft is reinstalled.
