Ok....I'm gonna ask it anyways. I'm finally in the process of upgrading my Infinities in my 97 Eclipse GSX. I noticed in brochures I have for the car they refer to an 8-speaker system. Where the heck are the "8" speakers. I know of 2 in the dash, 1 in each door and 1 in each rear quarter. That's only 6. Where are the other 2?? Is this a mis-print? Are there 2 I dont know of? I have had the car 8 years now and have all the options possible....but have no clue about the 2 speakers I can't account for. Am I crazy??

there are 2 places for speakers in my 97 gst that never had speakers. they are in the lower part of the dash. 1 is to the right of your glove box. maybe the gsx have speakers there? mine had the grills, but were empty. you could probably get 4 or 5 inch speakers in there.

I never noticed grills there before.....I will have to look later. I thought I combed the car pretty good looking for where there could possibly be 2 more that aren't obvious. I just want to make sure before replacing them that I get the right amount.

I've got 3 awd's (1-2g & 2-1g) and they all have the Infinity sys. they are 6 speaker systems. I'm pretty sure none of them have 8 unless someone put more in on there own. Like I did.

I was going to put 8 in...but didnt want to over complicate things....and I wasn't sure considering the size of the car....maybe I wouldn't even notice the difference between 6 and 8.

it shouldnt be too complicated. ive had those peices apart and they actually have nice metal speaker cutouts in there to hold speakers. i guess at the last minute they decided to ditch 2 speakers in production? ive been thinking about putting something in there, because my rears really over power the fronts.

Well this will be an experience for me. I used to have a boyfriend to help me with this...experienced in the car audio installation stuff. Now...I have a boyfriend that can fix anything...but is not experienced with car audio. So this will be a learning project for the both of us. When we are done with mine...his truck is next.

I highly doubt there is actually 8 speakers in the car. They usualy count tweeters as speakers from the factory. So if you have 6 actual speakers, but the rears have tweeters in them, they may count that as 8.

Gosh thats awefully silly....but I see your point. :|

I know when I took all mine out I dont remember seeing tweeters in any of the speakers. I even took the fabric off the front of all the speakers.

technicly. tweeters are speakers, and my 1994 Eagle Talon DL (1.8L Base model. no options) had a 6 speaker setup. 6.75" in front doors, 4" in dash, 6.75" in rear

In the Infinity system, the rears are counted as two each because of how the cone is added to them or some other audio-ripoff jimcrackery. Two teeters in the dash, two in the doors, and then four in the rear, eight.

I know, I don't believe it, either.

so my 6x9s are now 3ways and my door speakers are 2 ways. count the dash tweeters and my subs and im rockin a 14 speaker system!

i like this marketing bullsh#* :D

LOL, didnt think of it that way. I have 4-way Pioneer 6x9s in my car. Thats 8 in the rear alone.

Hmmm...very interesting. Silly. But interesting. :) Now all I need is the weather to break. *sigh* Thanks everyone for replying. I believe my partially learned brain comprehends.
