hey everyone, i have a question about some cams... i was looking at the Comp Severe Competition 101200 and the HKS 272 combo... i was wondering whats the difference, or the better set of cams.. besides the price difference.. thanks :thumb:

It's a tough comparison because you have to look at all the other mods you've done and how well the car is tuned to get the best use of the cams. From solely a cam standppoint, I can vouch for the HKS cams by experience, I have a bunch of buddys that run 11s with those cams on their street cars...I'm picking up the HKS 264 (I) / 272 (E) setup.

im running 272s but ive got oversized valves and dual valvesprings w/ tit retainers.

and im also reving to 8.5-9

Although i can not yet vouch for the performance of the comp cams yet, i can tell you they are excelent parts. I just picked up a set of the 200's, and am very impressed in the quality of the parts.

As far as valvetrain, i was told that the stock valve train is very adiquite for the cams, as long as the springs are still within spec. Mine were less than acceptable, plus i plan on driving the heck out of mine, so i opted for the ferrea dual springs and ti retainers.

I would suggest having your springs checked, and going with the comps. They are deffinatly as good as the HKS's,if not better according to others that have dyno'd them. And at less the cost it makes sence to me. Unless you plan on some serious RPM or boost, then i would go for springs as well.

I have the comp 200's with crower springs and titanium retainers. I also have ferrea 1mm os valves. My car idles better than a friends with the 272's and will pull 4-5 car lengths on him in the 1/4 mile and his setup is equivilent to mine. His has full interior but mine has a cage which makes up for the extra weight of the back seat I tuned both cars so I think that they are pretty much the same besides the cams. In short, I am a comp fan myself.

I also found the most power with the comps with the ex cam 2 degrees retarded and the intake cam 1 degree advanced. It actually picked op 15 hp and 12 ft/lbs of torque over having the set at 0.
