nice article, it helped me out a lot... just gotta keep readin this forum and then i'll start doin stuff to my eclipse. thanks for the info

It was a great article for newbies to read BUT it lacked a couple valid points...

- Stickers or Decals do not make your car go faster (*sarcasm*)
- More Air does not necesarily mean more Gain
- Large wings do not aerodynamically improve most cars (*sarcasm*)
- If you have a Turbo please use 93 or above
- For the NT guys slapping on Turbo kits or swapping out the motors is NOT always the best or cheapest option (unless you have lots of money, time, and know or trust someone who can really tune)

Everyone please explore ALL your options first and research when buying new parts. I am saying this because I had to learn the hard way and was not a member of forums like this to really help me realize certain aspects. I went from a GS to a GSX so I know how hard maintinence can be for both motors. Also if you plan to do lots of major work/tuning on the car it really helps if you write out something on what your planning to do. Like stages (i.e. suspension, then fuel, then manifold, etc.)

ok this maybe alittle off topic but another thing i think this site needs for newbes is a glossary (iknow i do) because i dont know what half the stuff means ....like i figured out imo i think... (in my opinion) that was my guess but there are others like na i had to ask about i thought it was a drug rehab before i asked . just an idea, thanx :talon:

Ohh yea that helped alot...I'm used to Chevys and Dodges...used to run an 83 Camaro at the strip...never ran a turbo so I have no clue about them and knowing that about the BOV is something very important. Thanks alot for that info. I'll make sure it comes in handy :thumb: :dsm:

Now that was funny...
1) You might be a newbie if .....You post a picture of your stock automatic shifter handle (with button). I like that one the best and the running 8's before you get to 16's was pretty good to. Already can tell I'm gonna like this place :D

most of the information I knew already because after I got my 93eclipse gs I went out and got the haynes manual :thumb: :dsm:.

I'm also a newcomer.Hopefully I'll be able to get my hooptie 91Tsi(auto)to run uo to par.How do you find where DSM shops in your area are?

Thanx chris your info was very helpful. being a throwback from bygone days (insert pic of long haired hippie driving 69 chevelle that i spent in excess of 20 grand to get to go 11 secs) i WAS planning to impart my old school ways to try and work up my eclipse. however i see that tis better to take small steps that to waste time and effort. since this is my first sport compact any info would be greatly appreciated. i am planning to turbo it and my cousin who is in okinawa building and evo led me to a site....sdsefi...from what i have read there it sounds like with their system i can do away with the ecu....please correct me if i am wrong. but anyhow i plan on removing the motor for a complete rework so please master guide me in the direction to enlightenment. be gentle, remember this is my first venture into 4 banger territory.....LOL look forward to hearing from you. alex

I dont have a lot of time because im in class right now, but all i can say is genious.

well said. Every site for car tuners should have something of the like. :talon:

oooooooohhhhhhhhhhh. so that's why my idle sucks. and i was about to go get an IAC and pay $160. i hang out mostly with honda guys mainly because there arent many ppl around here that do stuff to their eclipses. i had the misconception that BOV didnt really have anything to do with performance other than preventing the turbo from being damaged. on honda engines no one i know ever rerouted the BOV back to the intake, because it makes it louder not to. well... back to work (goes and takes out the bottle cap that was hose clamped to the intake to seal it off) :dsm:

it is very interesting I didn't know all that about dsms, but i have a question, i see that everything you are saying is for turbos, but what about non turbos, what a kind of mods should we do or not do to get the bes of our cars

very well put. i am a newb to the web site but im not a newb to a :dsm: car. its funny, i new nothing about cars before i had my eclipse, and now without going to college and getting a mechanics degree, i can almost do a complete engine swap by myself.

And to all you senior dsm posters, ill try to post some questions that we haven't seen. i'll read before i write.

Very good write-up. I have come from a domestic world...but have been well rounded in learning all of that stuff. (my fiance has a turbo-charged Sunfire...so I know it all) Anyways, someone should type up a write-up for all of the other car sites. SO many people on the domestic sites think all of that stuff also...and its completely annoying...and when you tell them that they are wrong...they don't believe you...but they always come back to you to find out what is wrong with their car after they do it.......ha! I laugh at them!
