Combination Advice w/ Holset for street

I'd choose a turbo based on being able to sit at the bottom of it's efficiency (for the wife) and at the peak (for you), not a turbo that's almost useless when you're in DD mode and sitting in the sweet spot for big power. You can make 350whp on an evo316G easily. You could go with one of bulls eye's lower turbos like the TO4E or simply USE the turbo you have, including the AWD swap, a full build, and full supporting mods.

So far the best proposed plan seems to use a proper sized turbo on your spyder for 350ish whp and use your big hair dryer on an AWD track car. That just makes the most since unfortunatly.

Where are you getting your H1E from?
How are you going to determine which size turbine wheel it has? some H1E's have the 60mm turbine wheel, which is the same as an HX35, and others have a 65mm turbine wheel which is the same as an HX40.
I got my H1E off EBay. Excellent turbo. I actually didn't know some H1E's had a 60mm Turbin wheel. I'm going to measure it this weekend. It would be very nice to luck out and get a 60mm Turbine wheel so I can use the same TH and just swap out the CHRA and compressor when I want to put down some serious power.

The H1E I have has no shaft play in it what so ever. (Cept what it is supposed to have :) ) and man is it big. I have a friend with a 60-1 that I thought was hugh. This is bigger than that physically. I'm not going to say how much I got it for cause it might upset some people. It was sub 100's though.

H1Cs are very big, but H1E's are giant, same as HX40s, that definately not streetable.

My HX-35 arrived today. Man I can wait to get this thing running.

To the original poster are you still set on running the HX-35?? If so you have to let us know how it runs for you?

I know who you got it from... saulg on ebay, A.k.A "Turbocharger and Diesel Injection"... it was 75$ plus a few to ship..
I've been doing research, because he runs a company which is a turbocharger core company... I've been trying to find out the actual condition of the turbos because they are listed as cores. I have a friend who bought an HX40 from him for 170$, and he said it has no shaft play, but I'm wondering if brant's turbos have bad seals or if they're in good working order.. brant says the only way he can tell is physical inspection..
I got on his website and he has a huge list of turbo cores to choose from. That's why I haven't gotten his H1E ebay special. I'm waiting on a response from him asking him to measure the turbine wheels on the different H1E's he has..

That's the great thing about these turbos though. They were built to be on disel trucks running 25-30 psi on a daily basis and built to last 300,000 miles. If you can get one that's initially in good condition it will last forever.

I just got two from him today, a H1E and a H2C. Measureing the inlet as closely as possible (not exact) it appears the H1E is 57mm and the H2C is 60mm. I think the dimension that is critical that you can't readily measure is the secondary diameter of the compressor wheel.

Yep... And they are in great condition. From the looks of them I'm guessing they where just pulled from totalled out trucks as the oil lines where just torched off. No shaft play and the compressor and turbine wheels are in excellent condition. Like I said this weekend I'm going to pull this thing apart and mic the turbine wheel to see what size it is. I think you can get the Holset rebuild kit striaght from Holset for around $100. I think I might just rebuild both of them somewhere down the road. I'm sure the compressor housing o-ring could use some love. But as from going through Saulg he is a good ebayer. I've picked up quit a bit os things from him for others (and some pocket cash) and all his items are just as described.

^ I saw the rebuild kits for somewhere around 129$ online..

zross, I wouldn't be worried about shaft play, just the seals.. It could spin perfectly OK, but blow oil.. I know holsets have huge journal bearings and awesome thrust capacity, but some do blow oil and not all of the seals are going to last as long as the bearings..

why is everyone asking about/buying H2C/E turbos? Here's a compressor map from a H2E turbo.. the H2C isn't gonna be too far off..

dsm10sec is ABSOLUTELY correct, the hx35 is wayy too big for what you want to do, it will slow you down more than make you fast. Id suggest a 20g or 50 trim to do that job, the hx35 is a giant turbo and not very streetable, you would not easily be able to drive in traffic with it and mild accell would suck.

Also, you cannot run 14psi on that big of a turbo, the minimum i think was 19 on the wastegate you get from bullseye(i think).

On another note, i wouldnt even think about putting an hx35 on a stock 7 bolt, maybe a early 6 bolt, but id definately build the motor first.

Remember, you must learn to walk before you can run, its all in the baby steps my friend.
Start out small, and upgrade to bigger and better things, thats how we do it in the DSM world.

I was tuning my holset H1C for a good 45 days, untill one night after hours of tuning,we solved the issue of the BIG turbo blowing off every pipe, hose, and intake pipe on the engine!!!we Pulled the muffler which apperantly restricted the holset even though its 3inch,any way the HOLSET flew, scary fast 25lbs. of boost, and blew the hell right out of my brand new 6bolt 3,030.00 jasper engine w/1k miles on it.CRAWL BEFORE YA WALK ect ect ect.
