2G Cold air vs K&N air intake

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

The K&N Filter you show is for a turbo, as stated. Your profile shows you have a 98 Eclipse . Is it a 2.4 N/T or Turbo...Is it a V6?... If it is a turbo, a cold air intake will do you no good. Let us know what you have would help find the right intake.

The factory MAF location makes it so you cannot put on a standard type cold air intake. They do have kits available such as this one but they are quite expensive and everything stays in the stock position. There are many mods you would benefit from before doing anything to the intake. At the point where the intake becomes a major source of restriction you will probably want to run speed density which will use a MAP sensor and you would eliminate the MAF

Do us a favor and fill out your vehicle mods list.

If youre just running basic bolt ons its not like you would see monster gains, so using the K&N because you already is it is probably best and spend money elsewhere. But filling out your vehicle mods list would allow others to determine if a particular part is choking or destroying your gains.

My favorite style intake is the factory air box with the aftermarket intake tube. For whatever reason I hate the look of cone filters, or maybe I just hate a round filter style next to a square engine? It triggers my ocd I guess

Cone style filters always seem to get worn out, get bent, get dirty. The factory air box with a hacked out lower portion flows very well and hides the filter element to get directed airflow from the front of the engine bay

I did have to cut about an inch off the lower portion of the intake where it goes to the turbo, but the coupler still fit over it just fine. I heat wrapped it and then sprayed it black to look stock

Ill save you hundreds right now.

Get the ebay style aluminum intake pipe. Get the 3 inch adapter for the maf. And buy a 3 inch k&n filter. Now you'll have to measure say an inch from the maf to what kinda length and width, do you have to fit in said air filter.
