Alright well like the title states, my clutch won't dissengage. My slave cylinder moves the fork so I know that its inside the tranny and nothing with my pressure system with the pedal. Does this sound like it could be my throw out bearing? It seemed to work fine before I went out to my car and tried to put it in gear and then tried starting it in gear but of course the car wanted to take off then. I guess i'll have to drop the tranny but I am wondering what you guys think it is.

What clutch are you running? Is it making noise? Has the pedal lost stiffness?

Last week mine just lost stiffness but the hydraulic system was working fine and then I found this...

The clutch forks are also known to be weak and Mitsubishi has a revised version which you can find at MachV. It looks like its time to pull the tranny.

I'm not sure of which clutch i'm running. The pedal feels the same. The slave cylinder seems to be working as it should. I'm guessing the fork or the throw out bearing went out on me. It just seems odd that I pulled my car from sitting in my driveway into my garage and then when I went to move my car again the problem occured. And I was home alone so I looked at my slave rod position with the clutch not pushed in and then pushed it in with a board and it is deffinatly working so its something inside.

"who da thunk it..." Jay over at Jayricing had the same issue with my car. It happened to be a snapped clutch fork. Mach V does have the revised version of the forks though. I believe they run about 65 bucks. Good luck.

Yeah I just checked MachV out. I will hopefully get the tranny out and find that it is just the fork and nothing with the actual clutch itself. Keep up the good replys guys.

If you need any help with pulling the tranny, I am in the midst of writing a very detailed write up so please feel free to pm me.

If you want to know if its the fork, just get under your car and try pulling down on the fork and see if half of it comes out. Happened to me when i had my 2600 in for about 4 months. Dont forget a new pivot ball on top of that.

Oh thanks for the fork tip! And thanks to all of you with such fast help. I am doing some work at my dad's friends house for the night so when I get home I will try doing the broken fork thing. You guys are helping a ton already.

I haven't been at home to try and pull the fork out to see if it's broken, but i've been reading up on pulling the trans to replace the fork and throw out bearing (depending what I find when I pull the trans). When i'm pulling the trans on a FWD, do I need to drain the tranny fluid? I can only find awd guides which the underhood part seems the same but not underneath. If anybody knows of a FWD specific guide, that would be awesome.

Well I tried pulling down on the fork but nothing happened. I guess I will have to take it apart and find whats causing the problem.

Well I have the removal as far as taking everything off that the guides tell you to before jacking the car up. I now have the car on jackstands and the wheels off and now is where I am confused simply because I have never done anything this extensive and I am only 17. If anybody knows of a FWD guide with some pictures for a 2g that would be great.

I got the tranny out and the throw out bearing seems to have some decent wear on the inside where it would slide on the shaft. BUT, I noticed one of the springs on the clutch disc was out so I removed the pressure plate which seems pretty good yet, but my clutch disc is messed up. The little bracket type things that hold the springs in on the clutch disc are all good besides one. The spring was laying in between the pressure plate and the disc. Would this be what is causing my problem?

Well tonight i'm going to try and put the trans in with my buddy and possibly dad if we need help. Does anybody have any tips or pointers to share with installing a FWD trans?

Damn, too late. I immediately thought springs.

Get a springless clutch disc. They're chattery, but nice.

Hmm. Having an engine hoist REALLY helps.

Make sure you have dowels, make sure your starter plate isn't bent.

Lube up the input shaft so it slides into your new clutch easily (This was one of the biggest problems I've always ran into) white lithium grease works great.

Try not to force anything. You may have to a little bit.

Some of these may be more 1g specific, however a transmission is a transmission.

If it at first doesnt slide in, drop the trans and turn the input shaft a bit, you have to get all the spines lined up for it to pop (it basically does pop) in.

Do NOT get it half way in and then let the trans sit with the input shaft halfway into the clutch (you'll get to this point, it's obnoxious) but you can warp your clutch if you let it sit on the input shaft. If you can't get it at first, take it out and try again.

I made a jig for an engine hoist for transmission removals. It really helps, I can remove it all by myself and install it as well.

Support under the transmission with a jack as soon as you start removing bolts/mounts (place a piece of wood on the jack so it doesn't crack stuff)

put new seals in the transmission while it's out, they're cheap.

Ensure the pivot ball is not worn, if it is, you can get a new one, or shim it.

Ensure the clutch pedal is also not bent. Get a new OEM TOB while you're down there.

You live in Wisconsin, as do I. Not sure how close Neenah is but if it's nearby I would be happy to stop over and give you a hand if necessary.

Good luck, and don't get frustrated. It doesn't help anything. If you cant get it in/out. Take a break, and come back to it after a few hours. That helps as well.
