I recently purchased a 96 GST. I helped the guy put it back together and he cut me a good deal. I am new to DSMs but, do know my way around cars. My problem is such. The clutch has 250mls on it. It is a Duralast OEM, the flywheel was resurfaced by a local but, well known Speedshop. On take off in 1rst or Reverse and at times 2nd (low speeds) there is a vibration and noise. I have never had any clutch chatter on any of my other cars. So, I want to know what people think. Could we have done something wrong? I have put about 250 miles on since.
The only issue we had was, the other day. I drove to work which is a 65 mile trip mainly Interstate. When I left home the car was fine. Engagement point needed adjusted. When I got to work the clutch was slipping and smelt burnt. I was not riding the clutch. We got it adjusted under the dash. Seems fine. Although I was merging on the highway and got the RPMS up in 2nd and it seemed like it did not want to shift out of gear. Last bit of info, when the clutch was slipping I did use the Cruise Control on that trip. This was before I realized the slip. I know it should not but, could the cruise have caused the clutch issue. I know DSMs are "Quirky."

i think you just need a good clutch set up an act or zoom. you also need to make sure that the clucth is disingaging.to check this put the car in gear push in the clutch and hold to the rev and if the car moves its not disengaging all the way. thats why it wont shift also.

The car is not moving when it should not. I have noticed a sound that sounds like a bird when I am stopped with the car in neutral and foot off the clutch. Once I push the clutch in, the noise goes away. All the fluids have been changed. 350mls ago. I am going to look at changing them yet again. My biggest thing is the vibration when I am letting off the clutch in 1rst and 2nd. I understand it is a 14yr old car. I am just stumped as to a possible cause.

I have other problems which I am slowly working on. I just ordered a new intake bc the airbox clips are broke off. The keyless entry and sunroof does not work. The SRS light is on, maybe a plug loose. I am trying to find a Power Steering Pump. I also need to get a new antenna assembly. It is a project but, it does run good for the most part.

I had a vibration in my clutch one time before the clucth was gone. i had just got back from the track when it started. 1st gear letting it out it would shake the whole car. also if your flywheel is glazed that wil also cause it and a not so good pressure plate. the bird sound dont know but changing the fluid wont make it stop . like i side if you mis plce one of those bearing washers inside that can cause it or abad bearing one or the other.

That would make sense if the clutch had not had only 500 miles on it. I helped the guy put the clutch and flywheel in. The flywheel is stock and was resurfaced. So, maybe the did not step it correctly. If I have to go and get a new flywheel, I will and redo it all. I understand that I am going to have issues to work through. I got the car for 2k with 134k miles on it. Do you think that I shopuld just start oredering a new clutch and flywheel? Also, I am getting a popping that seems like the CV Joint pop but it is when I am going straight, not turning. Maybe a bad axle?????

I am going to see about a Power Steering Pump tomorrow.

I guess it all depends on how much boost your running and turbo size. the fly wheel when they resurfaced it did they also resurface the bolt holes where the pressure plate bolts to. The popping dont know just wiggle the axles and feel if they are loose.

I am unsure if they did the bolt holes. Right now the car is 100% stock. I just ordered an Intake off Ebay. It is a no name brand. The clips on the airbox are broke and I do not want to risk sucking something into the Turbo. Hopefully if I finally get some good whether here, I will get to investigating the clutch and tranny issues.
