I have a 90 talon tsi, and was wondering: When i have the clutch pushed in and i rev the engine, the clutch pedal seems to push in another inch or so. Anyone have any idea what that could be?
 
Does the car drive ok? Does it by any chance do the same thing if the car is off..you push in the clutch and then push the gas petal? Personally I'm not really sure what would cause that unless there is some sort of mechanical interferance between the gas petal and the clutch petal/assembly SOMEHOW.
 
I suppose i should have posted a lil more info. I can rev the car when the clutch is pushed in but it doesnt drop to the floor even more until it gets till around 4k rpm...idk why but thats the magic number. Also, although this is backwards, my car shifts like butter, i mean i can shift with one finger when its cold but as soon as my car gets up to oparating temp. it takes A LOT of effort to get it into gear. As for my clutch moving another inch or so when i first start and rev it when its cold, i dont really do that considering thats not exactly good for the motor. :confused:
 
It might be your throwout bearing. I had a clutch installed and they didn't grease the throwout bearing, and it did what yours is doing. It would be great until it warms up and then it would be almost impossible to get into first gear and other gears as well. What happens when there is no grease, the throwout bearing slides cockeyed on the imput shaft causing it to be difficult to shift. I dunno if thats your problem but its a possibility.
 
um.......are you fu**ing kidding me...i had no idea you had to lube the tob. Its a sealed bearing so i didnt think anything about it. Well would it make a whining noise as well?
 
Well although i still have a whine when i give it gas while the clutch is out, i narrowed that down to either a clutch related problem, which it probably is, the imput or output shaft bearings in the tranny :sosad: but i did discover one of my shifting woes today. Ha wow, anyways i launched it today around 4500 the tires broke loose and hit rev limiter in 1st gear for about 3 seconds, thats irrelevant but anyways after that i couldnt put it into any gear. I was like wtf. To make an even longer story short, the bracket that holds the linkage to the tranny ( 2 bolts hold it one) only had one very loose bolt in it, i mean it was almost the entire way out. The other bolt was snapped off. Anyways it shifts like butter now wether it be hot or cold. :thumb: :D :talon:
 
Yeah those shifter cables coming loose have done that to me as well. Its so annoying. But yeah, the imput shaft and the inside of the throwout bearing need to be greased pretty well. You want more than a thin film but not a bucket. When I did it, I just greased the hell out of both and then wiped off the big globs. I had no problem. But when I let someone else change my clutch (yeah yeah i was lazy) The dumb ass actually cleaned the old grease off the shaft and didn't lube the new bearing. Needless to say that bearing was cooked within 3000 miles. Just be on the watch for that. If it starts acting up, that may be your problem.

The sound it is making when you rev it with the clutch out is interesting but I have no idea what might cause that. Let us know what you discover.
