Hey guys my Eclipse has been parked for awhile due to clutch/tranny problems.
My father was talking to his mechanic and told him the car will go into 1st after shoving it in and holding it and also goes through all the other gears fine. He said the trannys fine then its just the clutch. I was wondering if that is the case beacause i have the money to get it on the road if it is. Plus i can still somewhat drive the car out of my shed and wash it but its a bi***. A recap. Car still drives somewhat but clutch slips bad and its a bi***, Goes through and holds in all the gears except i have to play/shove and somewhat hold in to get into:confused: 1st gear but all else is fine. So what you guys think just clutch or clutch and tranny? Thx for your help in advance!

Did you recently change the clutch?

Was it originally your car?

Was the transmission worked on or anything?

Fluid levels, hows the slave cylinder?

How many miles is the car running? if its the stock clutch.

If your fluid levels are fine, most likely it will be your clutch. Drop your transmission check the little square throw out bearing. If that is fine most likely it will be your clutch.

You should change the tob since you're already changing the clutch if it comes down to it. No point of not doing it, since it would just cause rework in the future when it goes out.

Did you ask the previous owner if he had done anything to the engine/transmission when you were buying it?

Doesn't the TOB come with a new clutch? Mine came with it when I replaced it last month.

I reread what I wrote... Sounds like what I said was retarded... Meant to say change the clutch/TOB if the car has high miles... afterwards check your fluid levels and make sure there is no air in there....

What? You're post really didn't make any sense. From what I understand from your post here, you changed out your clutch last month?
Sometimes the tob is included. But buy OEM tob. I've heard that most aftermarket tob tend to fail, but some people also have had good luck with them. I personally would prefer going with oem.

the guy who sold it to me died and he didnt really tell me the truth about the car has 141k on it i believe and my TOB seems perfectly fine but ill change it out. i just dont want to put a clutch in and not a tranny and have the transmission fail on the 2 hour drive back to my house from where the car currently is.

He lied? or He died? LOL ROFL idk why that made me laugh...

Are you sure the clutch in the Eclipse is Stock? If that is true I highly suggest getting a new clutch. It's only about $250-$300 includes a TOB. Don't go OEM its about $500 and not worth it to spend so much...

Afterwards if that isn't the problem you'll know your clutch is good:thumb: :sneaky: and you might have some problems inside the gears :cry:or etc... :notgood:

Honestly I would try and bleed the clutch... If you had no errors before... and the car sat for a while... Might just be air... Double check the levels before anything tbh...

Ignore all of that LOL... Just confusing everyone with my typos...

Sounds to me like the 1st gear synchro or something to do with 1st gear is worn out. Especially if it shifts into all the other gears except 1st. I replaced the clutch in my car and it was still very hard to get into 1st and 2nd gear and I'm rebuilding my trans and 1st and 2nd synchros were very work out.

I thought you already bled the lines? And an oem tob is like $40. I don't know where you're getting this $500 number from. Even if you were going OEM clutch + tob it wouldn't even come close to $500. There are plenty of aftermarket higher quality for cheaper than that. I have no idea where you're getting those numbers from.

I meant to put a 4 instead of 5 300-400$ 1995 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE Parts - Mitsubishi Parts | OEM Mitsubishi Parts | Genuine Mitsubishi Parts

I paid 249 for my TOB and clutch. Was a typo since I was using my iPhone.

IDK why you are all over me, I am trying to help the OP. You should focus on helping him as well if you're on his post.

I agree, but he has to drop the transmission to check what the problem is. If it's not the clutch or TOB it'll be inside the gears.

I'm not trying to get all over you and be a dick, I'm legitimately just trying to figure out where these numbers are coming from. I've done about five clutch jobs in the last four months and the prices were not even close to $500. The most that one of my friends paid was $400 for a stage three clutch and tob. And all the other ones were cheaper than that.
