montreal,
Hello everyone, i just installed a stock clutch on my 97 gst and when its hot outside the clutch starts to slip this started 1 week after the install. Im running a fidanza flywheel also.
Does anyone know what can be the cause of this?

First....is the car stock, or not.....because a stock clutch/pp combo can only hold little amounts of power increase over stock

Sometimes when installing a clutch, if its not aligned properly it can cause slippage by keeping the release bearing in contact with the pressure plate in the released position

Who installed the clutch?....was it a DIY or a mechanic?

Did it start slipping as soon as you installed it, or just a now?

What brand is the clutch?....and did you replaced PP and TOB

a mechanic installed it
it started slipping after about a week
i dont know the brand its oem i think and yes the pp and tob was replaced
how can i know if its not aligned properly and how can i align it?

Well alignment can only be done with the tranny out

A new clutch needs a break in process just like new brake pads do, if you dont follow the break in process, the friction material in the clutch disc could rise to the level that could create a glaze and make that new clutch unusable. A 200-300 mile break in preiod is usually recommended, allowing the friction material to get used to the normal temperature

Another thing could be oil contamination in the flywheel or clutch.....if the mechanic wasnt careful and got fluid on any of those parts, it could cause slippage and create that glaze that will make the new disc garbage

Also, was the flywheel inspected?

underspec flywheel surface could cause the clutch disc to not have a good clamp against it and cause it to slip

You should take the car back to the mechanic, explain to him the situation....he has to give you some type of warranty for installation

Unless he finds blue-ish streaks on the flywheel surface, he will just say you where riding the clutch

a mechanic installed it
it started slipping after about a week
Take it back to him and have him fix it.
how can i know if its not aligned properly and how can i align it?

If it works, it's aligned. The alignment is only concerning the placement of the friction disk under the pressure plate, and only matters when installing the transmission.

have you tried adjusting the clutch pedal linkage, if not adjusted properly the clutch will not engage all the way there is numerous posts on vfaq.com and on this site about how to properly adjust your clutch pedal linkage i would try that or take it to the mechanic and ask him if he adjusted it at all with new clutches they sometimes require the adjustment.
