Clutch Replacement FWD

Is replacing the clutch on a GS-T any different than the GSX? The reason i ask is i was looking on VFAQ and they only have the AWD swap, i wanna know if i can use that. This is my first clutch swap.

It is mostly the same but you dont have a transfer case to take out and the driver side axle on the fwd is one piece and it comes out by just prying it out if the trans.

Use it and adjust accordingly. I know I'm a big help Just skip the steps that are clearly for AWD only cars... like removing the Transfer case.

Cool. That's what i was figuring, but just wanted to be sure before i get into it.

One more question. So the tranny in the 97 i just bought is shot, so I got a new one on it's way, along with a new stage 3 clutch and F1 Flywheel. Just to make sure what's the order i should do that job? Take out old tranny, install clutch in new tranny, then flywheel then put the new tranny back on? I just wanna make sure i get it right the first time and not spend hours undoing work. Thanks!

Well you got it a little backwards (the clutch is on the flywheel which is on the engine - not in the tranny): Take out old tranny, remove old clutch, remove old flywheel, install new flywheel, install new clutch, put on new tranny.

Be aware that the stock FWD flywheel is slightly larger (and more teeth) than the AWD one (110 vs 106 I think). This also requires 2 different starters then. This may or may not be a problem since you're replacing the flywheel, however you better make sure you have the correct starter for your new flywheel (size and teeth).

Well it was actually a year ago winter but it went great. Took my time and did it right. Sure learned a lot.

The flywheel i have is for a GST, do I need a new starter for it? It's the F1 Racing Lightweight Chromoly Flywheel that are all over ebay.

As long as the flywheel is for the gst you will be fine.

This is a decent guide as long as the pictures stay up. But I would just save the pix and copy-n-paste the directions in case something happens to the how-to link. For about a year I had trouble viewing the photos.
