ok so i am looking to purchase my 2nd dsm the guy is selling a 90 gst with
60,xxx on rebuilt motor. he only wants $1000 for it which i think is a steal!! after digging up dirt on the car he says it needs a new starter, new front wheel bearings, needs four new calipers, and a clutch pedal bushing. from what
it sounds like the parts the need to be changed or new isnt bad at all if i get the car for 1k. the thing is i have no idea what a clutch pedal bushing is or where and how hard it is to put in any advice?

Anyone?

The clutch pedal bushing is located on the clutch pedal. There is a bolt that goes thru it an connects to the master cylinder rod. I don't see it now but there was an advertisement at the top of the page where one of our vendors was selling them. Changing the bushing isn't much of a problem. If you have to pull the entire assembly to weld it back up is a lot more complicated and time consuming.

I just pulled my assembly last weekend. It is a BEAR of a job but now that I have pulled it once, I would feel more comfortable doing it again. Little advice when dropping the steering column, put a jack under there to support it when you pull the last couple bolts out. You don't want to be under there and have that thing come down and smack you in the face.

Off hand I would say no. Have you heard it run??? With the bad bearings, have you taken it out on the road???? Check out the cost of calipers, pads, rotors, wheel bearing, starter. Looks like probably another $5-600 right there if you do the work yourself.

How long ago was the timing belt replaced??

Sounds to me like he just ran the car into the ground. I bought a 90 TSI AWD for $300 down in Alton that just needed a tranny.

I know I paid $300 for front semi loaded calipers and it maybe cheaper to get a new hub assembly then just a bearing or at least it was for me when I got into an accident that blew my wheel bearing apart.

I forget the price off hand.

Sounds like you will be putting around grand in parts or more if you not doing it yourself.

i am going to check the car out tomarrow i talked to him and says he will bring price down to $850 he also told me he drove the car and it felt good other then the brakes being bad. i guess we will see tomarrow

checked out the car and wow the car was a bucket!!! i would not pay $300 for it.
thanks for your help tho guys

i was going to but ive never seen a turbo'd dsm in such bad shape. i didnt want to see it in such bad shape and it would have made me mad everytime i would have seen it...i got there and walked around the car and said no way and left...let me try to paint a picture. ok so 1st thing i saw was there was a metal bracket that looked like it was off a stop sign holding the spoiler to the body. 4 rust spots the size of basketballs behind each wheel. the windsheild was caulked up and looked like he game it to a 4 year old to just have at it. bumper had a huge crack that splits it in half and was held with tape!!! passanger door would not open from inside or out. interior looked like it was filled with water and left untill the water turned rusty then left in the sun to dry. everything inside had the color of rust and smelled like a hand full of change. the clutch would not go in gear even when it was off. there was trim missing everywhere. i didnt stay in there for more then 30sec because it smelled like change. looked under the hood it was an oily mess left it open and said peace. toilet on wheels that probably dont turn either ha
why do people not take care of there cars!
