Hey guys, I have a newbie question to ask.

I'm overhauling my entire clutch hydraulic system with oem parts which includes master and slave cylinders, release fork, pivot ball, TOB, also replacing my clutch with an ACT2100 + ACT Flywheel along with having my transmission rebuilt by Jacks.

Anyhow, I'm ordering the parts today and have a question about the salve cylinder rods. I was wondering if I should order the oem extended slave cylinder rod and put that in my slave with the rest of the parts.

I've heard about the ACT clutches not disengaging all the way and the extended slave cylinder rods help. I've also heard that the slave cylinder rod is just a band aid fix leading me to believe if I'm replacing all the hydraulic parts with OEM, I shouldn't need it.

Any input guys?

No use oem rod length. with all new parts you should not have a problem as long as your flywheel step height is correct at .610.

The reason for the extended rod is a fix for worn parts like bent release fork. I recently performed the same as you everything new oem with a 2600 and I adjusted it per jacks trans video, I had absolutly no disengagement issues.(on my old 97 gsx)

^^ Like stated, the extended rod is a bandaid and old news. With a properly adjusted clutch and new working parts you'll be fine.

We could tell that by the thread title. :nono:

BTW there is no such thing as an OEM extended cylinder rod. There is the OEM rod and aftermarket extended rods. As noted, an extended rod is a bandaid for not fixing the real problem, like incorrect step on the flywheel, worn pivot or fork, etc.

Thanks man, this is the exact information I was looking for. I gave you some rep, I'll be sure to take my flywheel to a shop and have them check the step height. I definitely don't want to pull my transmission off again anytime soon, LOL.

Actually, you're wrong. There is an OEM pushrod you can buy that's longer than the rod that comes with the slave cylinder. Part number: MB886949

Thanks for pointing that out. I note that it's used on a CT9A, CZ4A, D53A, or V43W.

It's a longer rod yes...but it's not for a DSM. It's an OEM part, but not an OEM extended rod in so much that it's not intended for our use. It's like the Galant heavy shifter that we call an OEM heavy leather shifter. It fits our car, but it was not made for our car, which is why when you go to purchase it, you have to tell Mitsubishi the part number or the car it is from, because when they look up Eclipse, it isn't there.

Clutch pedal adjustment. It is actually stupid easy to do it. Check the step height, make sure it is in spec, if not get it resurfaced, if it is already resurfaced and that is why it is off, then clutch pivot ball shimming is what needs to be done. Don't forget to adjust the clutch pedal stop either.
