Clutch Needs Two Pumps to Release??

Thats what the mechanic who just installed my replacement trans says.- The clutch needs two pumps to disengage the gears when he drove it up and down the block.

Would the problem be in the master cylinder or just the release cylinder?

He tried bleeding it like 10 times still the same thing.

I haven't tried it yet because it needs a battery of its own...and its not yet registered heheheheh this would be the third time.

I have had more than my fair share or clutch issues in the past (on my 5th clutch in like 5 years, 2 years not driving it). I would say make sure the clutch slave cylinder and clutch master cylinder are in working order. Check for play in the slave rod and clutch fluid around the rod boot. I have had 4 slave cylinders go out on me personally. Also check for leaks. You may also want to look at the master cylinder rod and the clutch pedal assembly as the bracket can get bent out of shape over time.

Did you check the boots for any seepage? And under the carpet in the driver's well?

It might just be prudent to rebuild them both.

I'd look at the both the slave and master cylinders. Go under your dash and look at where your clutch pedal is then look for leaks. Then go outside and look at the slave and see if it leaks. If not have someone push your clutch and see if your slave fully extends on the first pump then if not then you know it's something to do with either your pedal assembly,slave, or master. If it extends on the first try then it could be something with your actual clutch assembly.

Looks like rock auto has both new parts for cheap enough, I could have both for $50 total. Butwhich brands??

Hydraulic clutch works the same as hydraulic brakes.. I'll put my money on an internal leak in the clutch master cylinder. IIRC I got mine at NAPA or Autozone but most people will recommend OEM.

Do your self a favor and buy OEM. If anything at least the master.

Yeap so it HAS to be the master slave cylinder, it took me like five pumps to build up enough pressure to get it into 1st gear just putzing it forward and back in his driveway.

pretty sure the slave cyl is OK he said the (extended) slave rod was going out all the way and it was re greased so, yeah I just ordered another for 28 bucks.

...Started up on the first try after a year of sitting though! Ran a kinda rough I'm wondering what sort of a checklist I should go through before I start really driving it other than changing the oil.

Did you check proper clutch adjustment. I was having all types of problems when i first got my dsm and all it was is that it needed proper adjustment. Just another thing to check....
