Clutch Master Cylinder Rod Too Short?

Alright, I replaced both my clutch master and slave cylinder on my 1g at the same time, the problem that I came across is that the rod coming from the NEW master cylinder is about 15mm to 20mm SHORTER than the old one. I have it threaded in only about two threads on the rod and still cant get my clutch to fully disengage. I CAN'T use my old rod because it is bent and I can't find anywhere to get a longer rod. I checked the junk yards and pulled two but each was just as short as the new one! I'm very confused as to why my old one was so much longer.
Before I replaced the slave and master, it shifted perfectly but now it takes a tremendous amount of force to get it into first and grinds a little in all gears. Both with the old master/slave/rod and the new ones I am able to press in the slave by hand so I am least safe there.
One note of interest; I am running an ACT 2600.

So my main question is; are there different length rods for different years and where can I pick one up? Maybe from a different mitsu/plymouth/eagle model car around those years?
Also I have searched up and down this site for an answer for two days before deciding to post this.

It sounds like someone put an aftermarket lengthened rod in to make up for slop due to wear in the clutch pedal assembly, which is a very common problem in 1g's. I had to send my pedal assembly away to shepherd for a rebuild too, but once it was back in it made a world of different. Other solutions include welding it yourself, but i'm sure if you search for it you can find multiple how-to and symptom threads.
If you really want to put another lengthened clutch master cylinder rod in, any vendor on here would carry them, i'm assuming...i was looking at them when i was ordering my clutch, but they really are a stopgap solution to clutch pedal assembly wear.

Kind of a newbie question but, what all is included in the clutch pedal assembly? The clutch pedal spring, the pedal its self and the the rod going over to the master cylinder?

and don't worry, its a pain in the ass, but doable...but for gods sake TAKE THE FRONT SEAT OUT
it makes it soooo much easier, being able to lie on your back on the floor and take it out like that.
The clutch pedal assembly consists of the brake pedal, clutch pedal, bracket, and spring. Its hard to get out, harder to get back in, and you'll feel like a rockstar once you get it in and feel what it does for your clutch, if indeed that's the issue.

Thanks, that helps a great deal. Now, where to get a new one? doesn't look like any of my local parts stores carry the whole assembly.

I found a kit from JNZtuning so i'm going to replace the whole assembly then pull the trans back out and replace the pivot ball and the throwout bearing. Maybe shim the pivot ball to help disengage that ACT 2600. Thanks for the help with this.
