So I lost all the pressure in my clutch. Found the leak between the clutch fluid chamber and the slave cylinder, so I replaced the line. Started bleeding and couldn't even drain the resevoir twice. Even used vacuum from the car at high idle. So I removed the entire master cylinder and pushed in on the plunger with my thumb over the outlet. It just pushed back through the top. So I disassembled it and sure enough found bad seals.

Well after pricing a new one at a few places, I decided to just rebuild it. Now I've tried 9 different part stores and can't find a kit. Everyone has a part number, but can't even get one.

So has anyone ever been through this? Did they just quit making this kit?

Forgot to mention, the dealer has the rebuild kit but its 50 bucks for a couple of seals and springs!!! I can get a reman for 70.

i just got two from napa, under 20 bucks. if you get desperate i could get you one, usually the omaha warehouse has it, which means i can get it in a day. i got both in one week, one for a 95 gst and one for a 96 tsi awd and both the same part number.

These things are pretty cheap new... why rebuild?

Because $70 for a reman is more expensive than $20 to remanufacture it myself.:thumb:
But I couldn't find the seals so I did buy one.

Also, what is the purpose of the clutch fluid chamber? (The one before the slave).

I think the reservoir allows clutch fluid to accumulate to protect the clutch from quick engagement.

I thought the clutch fluid accumulator on the transmission was also the cause of the "pedal pump up" that 2G's have. Most people have good reports from removing it, including better clutch feel. I would leave the restrictor orfice in though.

Here's a thread explaining it's "purpose".
