clutch issue i believe

i just bought a 90 gsx awd and when i press the clutch in its fine but as soon as i let it out even just a lil like a 1inch or two the car engages .sometimes it shard going into first or reverse or will grond going into these gears. BUt if i let it warm up or start in second for a bit it'll drop into all gears no problem. its a 5spd.

If engagement characteristics change that drastically from cold to warm, a bleed is necessary. When that's done, you should adjust the rod on the master accordingly.

Very true i am having the same problem in this michigan weather. Try not to drive it with a weak clutch. Improper clutch disengagment really does damage to transmissions. I just let my car warm up and pump the pedal and the lines warm up and i get a good pedal.

If it goes into gear when warm, chances are your transmission is ok. You could change the gear oil for some peace of mind. I recommend a 50/50 mix of Redline MTL and MT-90.

If you absolutely believe that you need a transmission rebuild, several reputable shops (and sponsors of this site) are Jack's, Shepard, Dogbox.

TRE they do rebuilds under a grand if you get just syncros. I paid just over 1200 for my build and it is stage 2ish.

I had the same problem with my 90 gsx your clutch pedal assembly goes bad on the 1gs after some years i bought a kit from jnztuning.com fixed it works great now. Its completely oem parts from the factory.

Yea definitely sound's like you need to bleed your clutch and adjust pedal play. There's a good thread in here on doing it with one person instead of two.

all the web sites i've gone to ask what "spline" is..is there a way to tell without removing my tranny..

man can you push your clutch pedal all the way in the let it out and the pull up on it and it move a lil bit up if so you need a new pedal Assembly
