Ok, im having 3 problems that all happended at the same time(while i was sleeping)hopefull there all caused by the same thing..

First, when i got in my car this morning and went to start it, it was very hesitant but eventually started but when i had the clutch pressed in, in the process of it cranking over i felt a really bad grind in my clutch.

Second, after i started the car, it didnt want to stay at idle, it was jumping all over the place IE. wanting to die, revving real hard, wanting to die, ETC...

Third, i decided to take it for a little drive in my neighborhood, the motor would make a high pitched metal grinding sound and approaching 4k the whole car would start to shake, and i can especially feel it really bad in the middle of the car(right under the center console)

im sorry if i might have explained it wierd, but if you need to know anything just ask maybe ill be able to help a little more with a specfic ?

if any 1 can help I would really appreciate it..Thanks :dsm:

I would pull the oil pan and check for more definitive proof that the motor's healthy or hurt. I've also heard some nasty screeching noises from balance shaft bearings failing.

I would also look at all of your pullies and make sure that the belts aren't off center and being pulled apart. The crank pulley (harmonic balancer) is famous for coming apart and making some nasty noises but those are usually more of the thumping variety as it beats itself to death.

Grinding noises from the trans area can also be caused from loose flywheel bolts or a trashed throwout bearing.

Let us know what you find.

I don't like to speculate because I can't hear the motor and see the stumbling for myself, but the rotating assembly could be pretty trashed thereby creating internal resistance. I'm not saying that's your issue but it's certainly possible.

You might also want to pull the spark plugs and post up some pics so we can see if any pieces have been broken off or if there's another readily identifiable issue. I'd also pull the valve cover and take a look at the cam journals to see if they're scored or galled as this can also provide enough internal resistance to make the motor stumble.

A video will help, but you really need to pull the pan and check for shavings as well. It's very hard to daignose noises over the net so I apologize for the fact that I'm having you look at so many different things but it's the best way to find the root cause and fix it.

Those look very rich (almost like she's getting way too much fuel at idle AND wide open throttle). Have you performed a proper boost leak test and also replaced the O2 sensor recently? How's the gas mileage?

i would also recomend that you pull the plug under the dash by the cluch pedal, so you dont have to press it to start the car.. i also had the same problem f i understand what your saying.. and my belt was loose on the power steering pump and somehow the pully on my alternator was alittle bent.. hope that helps

Thanks alot for helping guys...

its kind of hard to reach but its near the top of the cluch pedal by the firewall, if you look closely when you push the pedal all the way down you will see it push a little butten, when you fine it just unplug it

i would some pics up but my cars in the shop(i got rear ended:mad: )

Here's an article that may help you with the startup grind:

And another for disconnecting the clutch safety:

Keep in mind that bad boost or vacuum leaks at the throttle body will also make the motor run like ass and want to stall. You can check for vac leaks by spraying your vacuum lines with carb and choke cleaner with the motor at idle. If the idle changes the line you're spraying needs to be replaced. Thinking more about your start up screech, it very likely could be the starter, loose or worn belts and a host of other crap so get under there and start digging.

My car make a grinding sound on a cold start in very cold weather ... ~ less than 20 F. Otherwise its perfectly find starting. I have replaced the starter and power steering pump with new OEM parts and still have the grinding. I am suspecting it may be the turbo or something not getting lubricated properly in the first few seconds of firing up the engine on a cold day... but then again I do run AMSOIL 10W-30. I had this problem last year as well so I am unsure what it is.

I just bought a 14b on the internet and sent it to GPopShop for inspection. After the inspection they said it wasn't a 14b but a Big 16G, but it had a bent exhuast side shaft. But they quoted a price that was cheaper for the repair of it than to purchase a new one. Anyways, long story short I will be installing a new turbo this spring and "hopefully" that will solve the problem of grinding on startup. I also will be replacing the alternator as it seems kind of slow on picking up the voltage at idle.

Though I don't suspsect the alternator is making the noise, it does sound from inside the car like something on the front side of the motor is grinding in cold weather cold starts.

Thanks for the links Andy, I will definatley get on the starter cleaning hoping it works but, as for the part of my car shaking real bad when im approaching 4k, do you think that can be consisntant with what you stated above?

I dont have another turbo to test it out with.:(
