Grinding noise when clutch is depressed

Ok so before I go into detail I want to say thanks already, have been using this fourm to solve my issues for the last few days.

With that said I bought my 96 base modle eclipse thrusday of last week.Car came with 2 new slaves and a new in box OEM clutch. Got it for a steal from a kid saying it had no 2nd,4th, or reverse. Already replaced the bad cable and have those back. However the clutch resivor was bone dry.

Since the resivor was bone dry and pedal was so soft a mouse fart could've pressed it I bleed the slave that was on there. Seems like it came back but pedal is still pretty soft, and now when the clutch is depressed I have a horrible grinding/clanking noise that it didn't have when I drove it home. (about 7 mins from my apt).

Searched the fourms and am fearing the throw out bearing is gone. But I'm looking for some one more familar with the DSM world to point me in the right direction.

Throw out bearing noise normally goes away when the pedal is depressed. I've been driving on a bad throw out bearing for over 6 months now and mine is noisy without the pedal depressed, but as soon as i press my pedal in it goes away.

If the pedal still feels soft i would check both the master and slave cylinders for leaks. And properly adjust the pedal as well.

I think it still sounds like you may still have air in the line. Might want to try bleeding the system again. I had this same problem with one of my cars when my slave cylinder was leaking (not a dsm) and once I replaced the slave and bled the system it was fine. Not guaranteeing this is your problem but its a thought.

Normally that's true but not always. If the bearing is really bad I've had ones make noise only when pressed.

Hopefully it is just air in the line but I know the clutch disc springs could fall out and cause this noise.

Thanks guys, Car came with 2 new slaves so I think I'll put one of thoses on and try bleeding it all over again. Going to bench bleed the slave first though.
Praying it's just air in the line, clutch feels strong when I put it in gear but car hops/shakes untill the clutch is fully relaesed. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Bleeding the clutch system can be annoying.I had a hard time with my also at one time.I ended up geting a bleeder pump and that sucked the air out in sec. Also on other dsms I've had once I replaced the clutch or messed with the hydraulic system I hade to adjust the rod inside the cabin that connects to the clutch pedal to get the proper function out of it

My Eclipse use to always have a soft clutch since I bought it. It was leaking at the Master Cylinder and the Slave Cylinder was bad. I replaced both for less than $50 on Ebay new. Fixed my problem after that.

It's good to mention, if one goes out, its best to replace both, because the other probably isn't far behind.

My master went out a while ago, only replaced that one, two or three weeks later my slave went out.

Sorry for the delay in response, crappy weather and work have slowed my progress a bit. Went out and changed my slave today, blead the thing right, got a good pedal but still have my noise. It's not like the grinding noise you get when your clutch isn't fully engaged when trying to change/select gears, it's more of a clanking/grinding. took the dust boot off my clutch fork while I was down there and seems as if thats moving around a bit, pretty sure my throw out bearing is toast. Oh well I'm gonna throw it back on craigslist I don't have the time to fix it and lord knows I'm not paying to have it done. Thanks for all the ideas guys.

This is random but I had a Talon that made a grinding noise when the clutch pedal was depressed. What happened was the rear transmission mounting bolt that threads in from the starter side had worked its way out and the bell housing actually cracked all around the front mounting bolt. I wish I had pictures of it but the noise was the slave cylinder pushing the transmission away from the engine block.

Hey guys fixed and sold the car today, turned out my lower rad support was rotted out right where the crossmember bolts up. After a samll battle to get the rotted bolts out I broke out the welder and buzzed in some new metal. No more noise. Sold it for $1000 bucks 2 hours later
