So this morning I start the car and getting it into gear with the clutch pressed in was very difficult (more than normal). Then I go to fuel up with the car running. I come back out and it wouldn't go into gear at all. I press the clutch, and it's like there is no pressure in it.

So basically I had to shut down the car and start it in first gear and somehow got it home that way. I checked my driveway when I got back and there is nothing on the ground, so it's not like my clutch blew up over night and bled everything out...

What could be wrong with it? I have a 97 Talon ESi.

Thanks in advance

EDIT: OKAY SO NEW DEVELOPMENT. I went outside, started the car, still no clutch pressure, but I just kept pumping the clutch and it came back and I could shift into gears with it depressed, the thing is though, after I fully release it, it loses pressure again and I have to pump it like 10 times again to get pressure back into it.

sounds like you have air in the system. probably from either your master or slave taking a dump which most likely sounds like your problem.
remove the boot from your slave and if its wet under the boot its bad fluid is leaking past the seals.

look under the dash at your master do the same if there is fluid under its boot its bad

theres a chance you could bleed it out but all likly hood your gonna want to replace them i would do both and be done with it. good luck

if you look under neath the dash where the clutch petal is hooked up to the fire wall and if you see that its been leaking there then its your master clutch cylinder. then check your slave cylinder witch is hooked up to trany.

I just checked at the master cylinder (wouldn't even know where to find the transmission... Sigh) and the rubber boot thing looks wet, I took a kleenex to it and I got some dark things on it. So I guess that's leaking which is causing no hydraulics from my clutch...

So I just went out for a drive, and I basically have to pump the clutch 3-4 times to get it to pressurize for about 20 seconds and then have to repeat.

Is there anyway to refill the master cylinder? How would you go about bleeding the system?

Thanks Brian and AMPPRC for the help, now I have a prime suspect!

So I just got back from a garage, and they found a pretty big leak from the slave cylinder where there is a seal. I'll need to get the whole slave cylinder replaced they said.

Does anyone know how much the part should cost? And how much labor this would require? Just wanna make sure that I don't get ripped off...

Thanks.

OEM part number is 4670065 with a dealer price of $87.45. Standard replacement time including bleeding the system is 0.5 hours for a technician with a B skill level.

what labor guide is that from i get .8 to 1.10 in automotive expert W/O testing, and .7 warranty time and 1.1 labor time in mitchell1?(just wondering)

Any ways use a clear plastic hose from the slave to the master if u have no one to help u bleed it out!

"Is there anyway to refill the master cylinder?"
yes fill it at the master cylinder for the clutch not the brakes small plastic cap/cup to the right and a hair lower brake master cylinder looking at it from the front of the not in the car! (make sure to take out the rubber boot/seal before adding fluid).

"How would you go about bleeding the system?"
Loosen small 10mm bleeder valve on slave cylinder on the transmission front towards the bottom buy the cross-member and front transmission/engine mount.Use a clear rubber hose about 5ft long that fit tight on the bleeder valve run it from the bleeder valve to the clutch master cylinder same place u add fluid. MAKE SURE WHEN U ARE BLEEDING THE SYSTEM THAT THE MASER NEVER RUNS OUT OF FLUID. Fill the master pump the peddle 5 times fill again pump it 5 more times fill again then pump it 20 times then tighten up the bleeder valve and you're done! All you are doing is cycling the air out of the system you can cycle old fluid out the same way just put the hose in a cup at first being careful not to let the master run out of fluid!

I usually use ALLDATA Online. When I was a service manager at a used car dealership that is how I based my prices and repair times so I just go by their figures. Do you think Mitchell has more accurate info?

Personally i like Automotive Expert above mitchell and alldata for a labor guide!
