Well, I am doing a clutch install for the past week and a half, any of you who know me, will know that is to be expected of me. But hey, I am learning right?
Well for the purpose of this thread, I just wanted to start off by saying I stripped the flywheel bolts, one of which a socket would no longer fit on. I had first tried air tools, than using the metal bar screwed into the flywheel and motor and using a 2.5 foot breaker bar.
well, 6/7 bolts came out, one did not. Using the craftsmen 10 piece "Bolt out" the bolt came right out.
Craftsman 10 pc. Impact Grade Bolt-Out™ Damaged Bolt/Nut Remover - Model 52165 at Sears.com
it cost 60 bucks, I used it, than returned it
mostly because I will never use them again. But they are amazing for anyone who does stuff liek this all the time.

Now for the rest of this post, ahem
JESUS CHRIST I NEVER WANNA DO A CLUTCH INSTALL AGAIN!
I thought 6-8 hours for a mechanic would mean 10-12 for me. WRONG if something could go wrong it did, I have spent about 200 bucks buying random little sockets, and misc stuff to do this install. Granted I needed to buy the tools anyways, it still wasn't epected at first glance.
Even stupid stuff like my intake pipe not wanting to come off, how random is that? I started this project last saterday, march 29th, and I think today will be the last day. I was stuck working on the flywheel bolts for about 4 days in 4 hour periods a day (about 6pm - 10pm) Very fusterating to be stuck on so few bolts, and in 2 hours if I got one bolt out, I was happy ans felt accomplished at least, depressing, i know.
Once the flywheel came off, everything was easy, new ACT streetlight flywheel up, torque down to not past 100 lbs (the previous owner/shop put them bolts at least over 150 lbs... probably a air tool with no check of how strong it was suppposed to be) but I used locktight on them bolts at put them at 100 like the manual says. Threw on my new ACT 2900 with street disk, bolted it down to 30 lbs, and than went for putting the tranny back on (after the throw out barring)
Why is it so difficult to get the tranny back on there!?! I don't even understand. I don't see anything in the way, it just won't go. I figure once the tranny is back in, I will have maybe an hour left to get the car back on the ground, and start bleeding system, but shit.. this car shows me no mercy.
I saved an easy 600 bucks on doing the install myself, another 600 bucks I can put twards my 6 bolt 2.3 stroker project motor right?
Just ranting sharing experience, hoping people who search "stripped flywheel bolts" find that link, it really does work. Have a great day guys!
Pics included is the one bolt that got stripped (and the tool grabbed into it like it had all its head) and the car up off the ground like 50% of DSMs are
