Hello,

I was hoping that some of you could help me out with this. I noticed a post that sort of dealt with this earlier but actually didn't answer my question.

The little rubber pads that depress the "Safe to Start" switch for the Clutch and the one that is for my brake light are both dead and gone. I can't seem to find replacements anywhere and I don't know if I just can't hit the name right or just haven't found the right parts site to go to. I was hoping I could get some help from someone for a link or information on where I can get one before I have to turn myself over to a dealer.

I had put some foamies in the holes (the little foam ear plugs) and they have worked, but unfortunetely the one for my brake isn't stiff enough and I've noticed should I take a vibration or rev hard that my brake lights flicker on and off. I have been out on cruise twice after this happened and now that I'm finally back on shore for a little bit I'm hoping to make the repairs to my 2g 420a.

Also if anyone has INSTALLED these the information on how to do that once I actually GET the rubber pads would be awesome too.

Thanks so much,
Tanet

If you ever noticed some little bits of dark blue plastic on your floor mat when you sat in your car, those were the remnants of the old parts. They usually get vacuumed up and the unsuspecting owner orders a new brake switch because suddenly, his brake lights won't shut off. So that must be the problem, right? Mitsubishi must sell a million brake and clutch switches a year due to these things falling apart.

You'll need part number: MB151298 (x2).

There used to be two separate part numbers, now they're one in the same for both brake and clutch.

Also, if you need something just to get you by while you're waiting for those parts to arrive, you can use a small bolt and two nuts. It worked for me, though it takes a minute to get it adjusted properly. If the bolt head sits too far out then the lights won't come on, too far in and and they'll never shut off.

I'm not sure why these things disintegrate like they do. It's not like their job is all that demanding and they don't even get any direct sunlight. I'm sure DSM could've accomplished the same function buy pressing a relief into the pedal. Go figure.

Oh, and Mitsubishi calls it a "Brake (or clutch) Pedal Stopper". :dsm:

Edit: Wow! You've been a member since 2003 and this is your first post? Man, you must've doin' a lot of reading.

Thanks for the help that is definitely a life saver on that part number.

I actually did get very angry about that and was wondering if I needed a new switch, but once I took a look and saw the problem I found the little pieces on the carpet. After many attempts of epoxy and trying to meld the rubber pieces back together I just used crazy glue to get them back together. They kept coming apart and eventually the multiple pieces got lost and that was that.

I appreciate the help and plan to go order those things ASAP. I doubt I would get lucky enough on advanced auto actually having them.

Edit: Ha Ha. I actually signed up along time ago and meant to get involved with the site and all; but between the Navy, getting married, and having a kid it all sort of got forgotten about.

Well if they do carry them, they'd probably be coming from Mitsubishi. I say that because it's not something I'd expect to find an aftermarket equivalent for. So if Advance wants more than $2 a piece for them, just get them direct from Satan. I'm pretty sure that's how much they were. JNZ Tuning might be able to get them cheaper, but you probably wouldn't be saving much and you'd have to wait a while to get them since they'd be coming from Pennsylvania.

We're only talking a few bucks in this case, so who cares. However, I prefer to give my business to a DSM community supporter like JNZ rather than going to the dealer whenever possible. So when it's time to buy something that's a couple hundred bucks or so, keep that in mind. You can save yourself some money and avoid feeding the stealer... I mean dealer.

Oh, and Go NAVY!

I checked with JNZ Tuning and couldn't find it on their site. I'll probably continue the search tomorrow and see what I can come up with. I'm not worried about the price of these but I will definitely keep them in mind when I actually go for some more expensive parts.

Thanks again for all the help it was exactly what I was hoping for.

Yes...Go Navy...or Dont' Go Navy...whichever floats your boat...or Ship in this case I suppose.

Alright,
Now that I feel completely inept at using the internet my parts are on order. Though in my defense I went into the vehicle type and then did a part number search and nothing came up. Apparently I just missed the obvious.

Thanks for the help from both of you.
