I'm getting ready to install my new clutch, but don't have the clutch adj. tool... Does it have to be an ACT specific clutch tool or can I use one that came with a buddy's SPEC clutch or CM clutch?

yes my buddy is giving me his ACT 2600 that has 166 miles on it and doesn't have the alignement tool and I don't want to have to purchase one if I could just borrow any kind..

If it fits the pilot bearing on the crankshaft and the splines line up on the disc you're good to go.

could I pick one up from advanced, autozone, napa? seperately instead of having to purchase their clutch kit?

No that wouldn't work. If you kiss enough ass you might be able to borrow one from the local parts place. I've actually bought clutch kit's from the parts store, used the alignment tool, then returned the complete kit (along with the alignment tool) for a refund.

A few ford ones will work i know, they do sell them at Napa and autozone, they also have univeral ones that work, i have one that works fine, i also have a few that came with my clutch kits.

My98gst: You probably already have this covered but at the bottom of RRE's cluthc and flywheel tips page, they remind you to check the fork just after you bolt the tranny back up. I forgot about this a couple weeks ago and ended up wasting a day of time re-doing things. Check it out and save yourself some time -

Its all the way to the bottom.

My buddy is giving me his with 166 miles on it... spun a rod bearing and toasted the motor so he's getting out of dsms and he doesn't have his alignement tool anymore

I am talking about all the hassle you're going through over the alignment tool. You can pick one up for 4 bucks on that site I linked. Just go to the link. Didn't say anything about the actual clutch.
