clutch alignment tool

Hi, I've read where a few people have used a dowell rod the same diameter as the input shaft as a alignment tool, (this is a dumb question) but, does it work the same way as a alignment tool would??

Don't know, but clutch alignment aren't that expensive.

your new clutch should come with the tool -- its usually just a piece of plastic.

Yes, a dowel rod works just fine, as does a small ( 10-11mm) deep socket on an extension. Alternatively, you can just put the disk behind the plate and put in some of the bolts VERY loose, enough to hold the disk to the flywheel, but not so much that it wont move. Then, go all the way around the clutch assembly, see those gaps on the side, between where the flywheel and pressure plate bolt together? Use your fingers to make the disk flush with the edges of the plates on the PP and flywheel all the way around. Good luck.

thanks for all the help guys, I don't know why but, my centerforce dual friction clutch didn't come with a tool

If its your first timing doing a clutch job just go out and buy the tool its like 2.98 at advance auto parts use the correct tool so you dont mess anything up

At one point in time I used the end of a broom stick which I cut down and then made a coned end to fit the small hole. This is due to the fact that I actually have 5 clutch alignment tools in my garage they just could not be found at the time of installment but we all know how that goes.

A clutch tool makes it easy but you can use a dowel if you want. There's nothing to it.

use a 14mm deep socket 3/8 worked great
