Was thinking, ( my opinion) this car probably had a hard life and you haven't heard it run yet. checking things out and doing a basic rings and bearings if need be wouldn't be a bad idea. since you're already in for a gasket set you might be able to find a package deal (rebuild kit w/o pistons) to save a little $. but then again I'm not looking at it in real life, so you would be the judge.

. I say leave the block alone unless you find evidence of damage. If you had a broken ring you would know it right away when looking at the cylinders. Have you pulled the oil pan yet? I would check there for any metal shavings or chunks in the pickup screen.

I was planning to clean it all up, but it's just waaaay too cold here. In the spring, I'm giving it a mild pressure wash, so no worries.
