Calgary,
We had $1000.00 saved up for the FMIC but then the tranny decided to take a shit and had to rebuild it so no more FMIC for now. I decided to alter the Hahn kit a make a CAI while saving up for the new FMIC. Some serious R&D went into this project!! (not actually)

Attached a 45 degree elbow to the Hahn pipe and chopped an Injen RD1880 for the other end!

You can hear the turbo spool a lot louder now.

Skipping out on any kind of filter? What about at least a mesh in case a rock or something flips up... You're scaring me man. I can only imagine what it would sound like with a tiny rock chip grinding through your compressor!

I see a filter on there too...

It looks like a valiant effort, but it'll be hard to ever mount a Hahn FMIC on there seeing as how two charge pipes will need to be right where your intake is.

The intake will be removed when I put on the FMIC, hopefully after Christmas I'll have enough money. I'm thinking on just getting an SBR IC and bend the piping myself. Thanks for the positive comments, now the car is like a stage 1.5 ahah.

The Hahn FMIC retails for $900 with LICP. You can purchase only the IC for about $600 and make your own pipes.

$600 for same-side inlets/outlets (perfect for a 420A), sturdy DSM-specific mounts and no possibility of sagging... :)

To each his own...

Does anyone have an Intake temp log showing if a cold air intake is actually beneficial on a turbo set up. I keep thinking about making one but Im not so sure it the gains would be even noticable. If it drops intake air temps 10-15 degrees i think it would be worth it. I know my engine bay gets really hot where the filter is.

There are a lot of factors that go into intake temperatures. During the warmer months, and all year round in warmer climates, asphalt and immediately surrounding air can be much warmer than ambient air temperatures. In that case, a CAI is a wash since you're sucking in warm air in from either the road, or from the engine bay.

Then you need to consider potential water damage, difficulty in fabrication, etc.. Plus, like you mentioned, there are several datalogs floating around for both CAI's and shorties which show negligible differences either way. Personally, I think the best setup would be something that siphons air through a scoop. I wouldn't bother with a CAI.

I won't have logs but I'm in the process of making a cold air box to isolate my filter. The car is down for a week or two so some catch can's and a wire tuck will be under way too. I'll be able to tell you if I can feel an actual difference in the spool after I install the cold air box for it. Can't wait to be done! :rocks:

Unfortunately, I won't be able to put an intercooler on the car as planned
A kid came and looked at my car yesterday and fell in love with it as I did 5 years
ago (when it was stock though). He gave me an offer I couldn't refuse.

Reality just hit me on how much I actually love the car. I will probably cry seeing
her leave my garage. I've had her since I was 16 :(
