My car has been acting very funny lately. To begin with, I will be driving and the car will completely die and the all the lights on the dash will flash on, then within a few seconds the engine comes back to life. My check engine has come on from time to time, but I can never seem to make it to autozone in time to scan the code before it goes off. Sometimes when the car will shut off, I can't get it on. They only way is to twist the key half way so that all the lights on the dash come on, and then wait like 10 or 15 seconds before starting it. Could these problems be caused by a bad ECU?

I'm sureit could be the ECU, bit most likely something else that's simpler to fix. Check through all ground connections and connectors. Its probably something very simple, but the hard part is funding it. I just went through misfires, no spark, fuel injector problems, and other little crap that was all caused by a bad negative battery cable.

Hey, even if the light is off the code is saved in the ecu unless you disconnected the battery so I would still go to autozone and see if they can pull the codes. MY car will have the check engine light sometimes but it goes off but I can still get the codes read at autozone. Worth a shot.

I just want to update the thread. A few days ago my car died while I was at work and would not start. I had it towed down to a local repair shop and they diagnosed it as a bad asd relay. This would explain why it would randomly stall and why it wouldnt start. I will try to figure out why the check engine light was on another day. At least the car is running again.
