cheapy boost gauge

so the guy i bough this car from had a cheap sunpro boost gauge and its reading that im doing 20 pounds of boost which i know is wrong because im running the stock t25 turbo and stock motor is it common with these autozone gauges or does he have it hooked up wrong sorry if this question is a little nubish hah!

previous owner of my car had a sunpro gauge in, but had the BCS bypassed with a hose and it did the same thing, swapped it out with a glowshift gauge, still showed 20-25psi...removed the hose hooked the lines back up to the BCS and everything was normal, 12psi.

also, check out where he tapped the gauge in at under the hood, i can only assume someone cheap enough to run a sunpro gauge would probably just tap it into any ol' place under there

yah im not understanding. and im pretty sure its hooked up by the throttle body? should i just route it into the fpr mines still stock but someone told me it would read alot better?

fpr would be the best source, yes.

make sure the BCS(boost control solenoid) is hooked up. it's on the passenger side down by where the intercooler is(just follow the intercooler soft piping until you reach the intercooler, then check in that area, it's a little black thing, looks a lot like the fuel regulator, and should have 2 lines running into it.



either way, replace that sunpro gauge, they DO fail and/or are unreliable.

That's where mine is routed to. I'd say put it in the fpr hose.

i personally have a glowshift gauge in my car, but there's tons of alternatives....AEM being one of the more popular ones


and yeah mine had a cheap plastic garbage line too, it was pinched in a couple places....bought some new line at autozone, just use RTV on the places you connect the lines at so it doesn't leak, and let it dry good before you start the car, or the vacuum will blow right through the RTV(if it's leaking). then when you're all done, do a boost leak test.

I just purchased my glowshift gauge. My car came with the cheap Faze gauges and Im only reading 8psi right now. I found the hoses for the fpr solenoid were hooked up backwards so i reversed them and will be testing it out today.

fpr would be the best source, yes.

I disagree. I've been told by people that this is a little risky. If anything happens to that line T'd into the FPR and it starts leaking, your fuel pressure will NOT raise with boost, making you run lean and potentially damaging your engine.


Personally I have mine T'd off on the vac line off my BOV.

I'm using an autometer boost gauge! Since my engine swap i've noticed my boost gauge making a lot more noise when it spools up though. Does your autometer make any noise when you spool?

Your gauge sounds like your leaking air before it moves the needle..

The same sound as having the gauge not hooked up, you should hear a hiss in the cabin..Sound familiar?

I figure ill spray some dawn on the gauge and hose connection and check for a leak. Any other ideas to check for a leak?

Its probably just the plastic line..Or its where the plastic line goes thru into the gauge.

I think your local auto parts store should have the plastic line kit and new fittings for pretty cheap.

Advance Auto sell vacuum line priced per foot, that's where i got mine at...sealed the leak right up.



although when i said i needed to get a line to go from my fpr to the boost gauge in the car, the guy looked at me like i asked him an impossible question
