I'm needing a good tune, for cheap. I'm gonna be running around 27psi. ordering my crank, rods, pistons, and valves soon. I know these cars need their fuel. I think thats what i was lacking when the rod got sent through y block with stock internals on 22psi ;p anyways, i need a good a/f controller or something. Whts a good / cheap brand that will get the job done? thanks!:thumb:

Cheap tuning and 27psi should not be used in conjunction. IMHO, you have four choices - ecuflash, megasquirt, ecmlink, or aem ems. A wideband is absolutely necessary.

Also, while the head is out, I suggest valve springs and cams.

Please tell me you have the proper fuel mods for 27psi...

He said he thought that's what he was lacking was the fuel. Running 22 psi with no tune, fuel or af gauge was your first mistake. Its hard to feel bad when you don't take the proper precautions. But for tuning, i recommend ecmlink. Aem ems is ok to but real expensive unless you find one used for a steal.

Imo, if price is an issue, ecmlink is prefect for the price and gets the job done. Overall, ecmlink will cost you about $1000 with a good tune depending on how much you local shop charges for a tune ( or tune it yourself). Probably find a use ecmlink setup(ecmlink cables, socket ecu, and ecmlink chip) on here for around $500. (But, a remember that you already have an eprom ecu in your 95gst, i think). Then a tune from a local shop for around $400. A local shop around here charges around $240 or $214 an hour for tuning. A buddy of mine got his gsx tuned with the base bolt on(intercooler, bigger injectors, 16g turbo, and other little things) for $445, fyi.

Green Bay is lucky to have a tuner. Most shops with a dyno have no idea what link is down here. Ive heard rumors on the local forums of a couple shops that CAN tune, but nothing for sure. You can always get a remote tune, MY1Gxxxx something has that service.
I agree, for the price? Link is the way to go. The AEM is very nice from what ive heard though and you can usually find one for around 750

Thanks everyone. I was already leaning more towards the dsmlink for tuning so I think I know what im gonna run now. I have a 255 fuel pump in it, high volume fuel rail. I'm going to do the GM maf swap on this as soon as i get around to it. I'm not a total noob to these cars. Just a noob to this site. I love it so far

Just fyi, if youre doing the gm maf for performance, dont bother. Unless you are pushing over 65lbs/min or so. The 2g maf is capable.
I would understand for cosmetic reasons, it DOES look better. But, look into linkv3 with SD, thats even better looking and you could flow 100lbs if u wanted LOL

Oh, I didn't know the stock maf was capable to be honest. That's the only reason I was considering it. I'm having trouble finding the turbo I want... I need something capable of running 30psi and not get hot from being maxed out.

Going after psi is not what you should look for. Pick a turbo based on HP needs and power band you require. 20psi on a t25 I'd NOT the same as 29psi on an hx35....

Chose the smallest turbo possible for your goals.

some people want 350-400..biut then go looking for a fuel system and turbo that are capable and run their best efficiency at 600 hp.. just because they could get it at a similar price..so why not?right?

wrong. Youll end up with a car that has a poor powerband and youll put down the numbers you want on the dyno, but in the road it wont perform as it should.

I. Need a tune for my mods with a 93 octane 16g,255walbro,stage2 file rail,550cc Injectors,2g maf, front mount
. I hope you have a AFPR with your 255.
,20psi,50psi with fule help
50 psi?

I'm needing a good tune, for cheap.
You get what you pay for. Honestly man save for link and be done. Tuning and a logger in one..... You just cant beat it.

Yes, you can throw "psi" out the window and start thinking lbs/min.
Whats your HP goal and some guys can throw out some turbos thatd work for ya maybe?

cheap tuning = oxymoron! why in the world would you start pushing mechanical limits of a car only to skimp on tuning? Tuning is the most important part of the after-build.tuning should always be taken into consideration with any build that stands a chance of reliability. sure, anyone can go push 30 psi through their motor, but then send me a pm when it blows up and needs a rebuild because it blew up the motor.

I run a 16g and its never runs out of power band. In fact, it doesnt even like to boost hard until im in second gear. So a gx35 is going to be even more laggy. You wont even start boot until 3,500 rpm. Just something to consider.

so even with my head ported and decked a big as I can go, that turbo won't spool until 3500? i dunno... I'm gonna buy an aem ems series 1. and with a 2 step on it, i won't have to worry about lag when i launch.

Are you kidding me? You title this thread "cheap tuners" and say you plan on buying the most expensive and hardest to learn management system for our cars?

I feel like you are just listening to whatever your "friend" at the autozone counter says and goes for that brand. Why don't you tell us your GOALS for the car because that drives the choice not psi, not turbo size, but HP and power band needs....

Im getting it pretty cheap. I have a little experience with tuning using the hp tuning software for chevys. Came concept with tuning. I could figure it out when the time comes. I'm looking to get a solid 350-400 to the ground.

nothing AT ALL wrong with an AEM EMS. If you can afford it that is...... From what i hear its actually better than link. Better timing control or something. I mean it IS a standalone, i assume you can make it do pretty much anything you want.
Heres the problem: Tech support. Look around, how many of us run EMS's?? Now how many have Link?
Youre gonna need to befriend a select few people that know their shit and have patience to help you tune that EMS. I still say, stick w link. Its perfectly capable and easy to learn.

Are more of you running the link or the aem?

WAYYYYY more people use link. EMS is nice and all, but the DSM game is about budget builds most of the time, so DSM link's easy to use wiki as well as the pure wealth of knowledge just on this site alone is worth the $600 price tag. Better than paying $750 for a used EMS V1 and having maybe 5 people on this site that actually know anything about the EMS and its different layout. You'll most likely be kicking yourself if/when you have an issue and post up an AEM EMS log and no one on here can read it. You'd be saving yourself a huge headache just going with Link.

yeah totally understandable. I'll go with the link then. I definitely don't wanna be regretting it when i run in to an issue.. Thanks bud
