I recently bought a 95 gst for cheap. It has 147k on it and needs work. Turbo is shot and #3 cyl has minimal compression. I took the engine out today but didnt tear it down yet. I tried to see if the crank had any play in it as far as "walking" is concerned and did not feel any give. I have no experience with this engine, but Ive done research online here for a few days to educate myself. I am well aware of the crank walk issue but Im still vague on the solution for the problem or if the 7 bolt is just a useless engine from jump. On one hand the tuner forums are saying to just swap in a 6 bolt, and on the other, I read that the dealerships were installing "updated" cranks and bearings to solve the issue. I am a tech at a chevy dealership and would have no problem overhauling the engine myself. I am trying to go the cheapest route as these engines a f#$%ing expensive. I will be tearing the engine down to see the condition of the internals in the next day or so. Any input would be appreciated. Also anyone who lives on Long Island thats into these cars give me a shout.
