Cheap Sound Deadener

I've done a lot of research on this but havent really found testimonials of someone who has successfully used an inexpensive sound deadener. Spyders are noisy as they are becasue of the canvas top so I'm trying to find a cheap sound deadener for outside noise. I'm replacing the carpet so I've taken everythign out and just want to take advantage of it and add some sound deadener.

Other than dynamat, has anyone found a cheaper alternative to the outside noise?
Rubberized coating? peel n seel?

dont use anything roofing related unless you want your car to smell like asphalt . i posted a couple of link that will help you out. you get what you pay for so do some good reading and do what you think will work best. or just get a louder exhaust so it doesnt matter!

In my buddy's 99 civic hatch back with an exhaust. It's not to loud. The exhaust sounds like its coming from outside of the car. With my damn hks exhaust, it sounds like it's coming from inside the car. I'm going to give this a try. Any suggestions on where to put it, behind back seat, trunk, spare tire area?
