whats up guys.. i been thinking how to make a cheap ramhorn exhaust manifold without paying $600 to $100:banghead:0..

ok hears the idea.. take these ebay ramhorn turbo manifolds from a b16($100), exhaust manifold steel flange($50) from cxracing and a turbo inlet manifold adapter($33)

ok first off ima go to autozone to buy a exhaust manifold gasket from a 99 honda civic si to see if i can do a small modify to the ebay ram manifold and not waste 50 bucks on the flange. ill keep on updating as the project continues

It seems cheap now but when you are looking at that cracked POS in a few weeks/days/hours after installing, you'll wonder what you could have done with that $100 and hours spend modding, installing, then taking it off.

well this is for guys without deep pockets... plus one of my budys has been running his honda for a year now with these manifolds and he hasn't had any problems only that there not chrome anymore because all the exhaust heat. but they been holding up well at 18psi..

Pretty cool idea when your on a budget. Some Ebay stuff holds up if you read and do some research.....unlike the other people with the bad experience with Ebay. :rocks:

I'm afraid once you get into chopping and welding that flange on it, you'll find the piping is thin and of poor quality, and you'll have a hard time welding it back together. If you do get it welded together, and everything fits (you do realize that turbo manifold is going to put your turbo in a different spot, so none of your intake or intercooler piping is going to fit very well anymore, right?) how long are those welds going to hold, on that crappy tissue thin piping? It really is a waste of $100, and your time, imo.

If you want a ramhorn worth the trouble of installing for that cheap, you'll be alot better of if you do something like this, yourself.

I'd like to see it I just recently picked up an eBay turbo manifold locally for 40 bucks and it looks pretty decent and greatly improved flow.

jaja well silicosys4 this is where my experience and my degree in automotive and welding come in hand and my job because i work at a college... im not saying its going to be easy im just sayin that i thougth about it before i started it. I know the manifolds are cheap crap from ebay but not all guys have money to buy some of stm for 1k. Which I think it's too much just for some manifolds(IMO)..
And yes obx do make some, but I made some research and people are giving them really bad rep. that where this project comes from why pay for obx when u can make one for cheaper .. obx manifolds go for about $600 to $350(which I haven't found non for 350) my modify ram horn go for $150 to $200. You see what I mean?

Not really, if a $600 chinese OBX manifold is crap (there's a reason those bad reviews are out there...The only OBX ramhorn manifold I've seen was on its fourth reweld...4 gasket sets, 4 times of being down for at least a few days, etc..) and that is considered by many to be one of the GOOD pos chinese manifolds...whats the bottom of the barrel $100 manifold going to be? Paper thin, and the cheapest (crappiest) tubing they can get. I'm not saying the premise is bad, but you are better off starting with raw tubing and a few flanges, and putting that college edumacation and job-perks to work.... but good luck, keep us informed.

*edit* you have a degree in welding and automotive? Wouldn't that mean you have the skills, the place, and the tools, to buy some schedule 10 and flanges, and weld it into a sick-ass ramhorn? I would think it would be cheaper make one, than to spend the $150 you are quoting to ghetto-rig that chinese BS to fit on a dsm. I'm no welder, but I'd think you'd want to start with high quality materials, then show off your skills. Is really thin, exceptionally poor quality metal easier to weld, and more durable? This thread is confusing.

Why not take that $200 and buy an FP manifold? Affordable, durable, and well performing. Seems like the smarter solution.

How do you know it greatly improved flow?

Didn't OBX make one that was already cross-made for the 4g63 a while back? I seem to remember 99gstracer running one and having to move his radiator hoses around to clear.
This one: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/bol...al-length-ss-tubular-manifold-looks-good.html

I'd put it in the middle of the road between the worst and the best. It's also $350 though, so probably not what the OP considers affordable.

Man, if I were you, I'd use my time, skillset, and tools and build something nice on the cheap. Why not? Grab a few j-bends and a couple flanges and go to work. You'll spend $200 and have a decent manifold that you can be proud you made yourself.

And that sure beats polishing a turd.

Personally I would have to agree with 99gstracer. Do it right the first time so you don't get pissed at eBay crap and spend even more money in the long run. Trust me, I know. I would definitely go with the Forced Performance Manifold. It's not that expensive and sometimes goes on sale. Or even just get a 2g ported manifold. I guess I'm thinking on the performance side but who cares it your manifold looks like ram horns. It matters how it performs.

As far as I know, the B16 flange is much smaller that the DSM flange, so you're gonna have to space out each runner to fit the DSM flange.

You might want to look into the h22 or 23 ramhorn manifolds

I cant wait to see how this works out, good luck to you in doing something different. I dont have any of my exhaust parts laying around anymore wish I did I'd send you soemthing for R and D

i've used ebay manifolds and worked great. some ebay stuff is crap tho dont buy a ebay fpr they are crap. like to see how it works out.
