Alright, so I blew up my ####ing rear differential, I get a new one and put it in, putting the subframe back up and the ####ing stud from the chassis to subframe breaks in half. HOW THE HELL do I get to this stud? I am about to cry right now as this is complete bullshit. Its the passenger side rear stud? Anybody have this happen to them? And what did you do?

Picture?

Drill it out or weld something on to it and try again. I can't really picture what exactly you are talking about without seeing it.

I haven't seen them but i am sure it is a captive stud. this means that your will probably have to buy a spot weld drill and drill the spot weld that hold the cup on and replace the stud. some pictures would be helpful. If you have any questions about doing it take it to a competent body shop to have them fix it. you can doo lots of damage in a hurry. a shop should only get $300 at the most to fix it.

The same thing happened to me when I was installing my polyurethane suspension bushings. I used a grinder to take out the broken stud then welded in a new bolt, be careful and make sure its welded really well.

I was thining of maybe taking off the top sheetmetal from inside the car and pulling it out from the top. What do you guys think?

You can cut the sheet metal from the inside of the car, then you have to cut off a piece that holds the stud down. Its a pita, but you dont have to worry about a weld breaking.

Theres no structural damage to cutting those two pieces, first the sheetmetal and then the little square that goes over the stud? Looks like it does bracing for the entire rear end?

Just drill and Helicoil man, thats your best bet. And you won't be sacrificing structural integrity of the rear either. I don't think i'd feel comfortable with the car if it got chopped.

I had to do this for my AWD conversion. I actually took a 7"(may be longer?), grade 8 bolt with a big washer and welded it to the sheet metal. There is also a cylinder that goes around the stud for added strength(in between the sheet metal) . Its a pain to cut neatly if this is your first time. Good luck with whatever way you decide to fix the problem.

On a 1g it's removeable from the inside of the car. Is the 2g different?

On a 2g you have to cut metal that is directly on top of the stud. It is removable that way....Do you have access to the stud without cutting on a 1g?

Yes, there is a retainer that bolts onto the subframe and holds the stud in.

Mother####ing 1gs....alright im just gonna start cutting away and get it welded back up when UI have the time, which would be in like 2 days after I cut it, as im getting somethign welded up at the same time anyway.

Alright what I did was cut off the sheetmetal and then a little piece of bracing that turned out not to be bracing but sheetmetal holding that stud in. Ill take pictures, then I got some washers, cut into them and made them fit like the old stud, works perfectly and now it wont rust!

Thanks guys for your help.
