Charcoal canister removal question

Ok, so I removed the charcoal canister, there is a tube that looks to be a filter attached to it going towards the back of the car, this is for the gas tank correct? Do I just turn that downwards or cap it off? Right now it is turned downwards, but I am afraid of the fumes and when I disconnect my battery itll spark and cause a fire. What does that vent do?

Come on...it came up while typing in your topic title. It vents fuel tank fumes. Leave it unplugged and point it down if at all possible.

I saw those, but got mixed messages, venting it, capping it off, and wanted some more answers.

It is a vent so don't cap it off. If you do it will build up a LOT of pressure in your gas tank. Yes there is some bad info out there about capping it off. (I know because I read the bad info and capped mine off several years ago.) It would also be a good idea to run some more hose back under the car to keep the fumes from getting in the cab.

Yeah, I just turnt mine into a space that leads to my wheel well with the filter and little bit of hose attached.

Wouldn't you still have gas fumes under your hood like that? I like the idea but I wouldn't want the fuel smell.

As said before, you don't want to cap it. I've had mine pointed down for over 3 years, uncapped, I don't smell fuel and my car hasn't blown up (yet). If it gets really hot, you might see very little fumes come out.

When i had my 240sx I was going to remove the charcoal canister, but in those car's when driving fast and driving hard your gas would go down quicker. Doesn't the same happen with these car's?
