But there are some guys who claim well over 400whp on stock lines and filters. This might not be safe for everyone, and I personally would feel much better with a freer flowing fuel system (which I don't have right now) But the stock one has been proven to work well many times.

Convenience is another factor. With an after market filter you can just change the filter out instead of having to remove everything with the stock filter. Since I have bought my car about 5 months ago, I have had to replace it twice already due to gunk in the gas. (Plus if your dressing your engine bay up, it would like nice).

I know a bunch of guys making close to 400 at the ground with the stock fuel lines and filter

You could get one of these: Mikuni -6an fitting This allows you eliminate the stock banjo fitting and adapt a -6 line to the stock fuel filter. Then tap the end of your stock rail to 3/8 npt and screw in a 3/8 npt to -6AN fitting with jb weld. Use a 90* hose end on the filter and a 45* end on the rail, viola, you have a -6an fuel feed line.

what are some good aftermarket filters??

I'm about to order the Fuel Lab fuel filter this weekend. Aeromotive also makes a good one.

Good point. The fuel lab fuel filter replacements are $10.35 from ExtremePSI

Or you could spend $25 on a machined aluminum AN adapter with an o-ring that bolts right up, instead of tapping, JB Weld, etc.:

Just a thought. :D

Waste of money for you. I run the stock fuel lines and the stock fuel filter in my car and I make more than 400HP. Look at my times. Just to add, I also run the stock fuel pressure regulator. There are alot of things in our cars that do not need to be replaced for moderate HP levels it's not even funny.

See my signature, its on stock fuel filter with MAPs feed line kit. Im going for 750whp on E85 with the stock fuel filter, so far I havent found its limits yet.

A trick flow filter is also a good choice. You'll have to get the metric flare fitting to -an adapter though if you plan on re-using your OEM feed line.

I used an -8 in / out trickflow 10 micron filter on top of my OEM feed for a while. It worked, but the outlet of the filter was very close to my hood.

Personal recommendation, use the OEM filter, and eliminate the top banjo fitting, and replace the feed line from the filter to the rail with -6an. That is where 90% of the restriction comes from in the OEM fuel system (after the pump of course).

I know a place where you can get a filter to rail kit and just bolt it on. Replacing the restrictive factory banjo bolt and using a nice Trick flow Filter.
